JC, I always have a great time at the Aqua Groove parties (well, I've only been twice and had fun both times), but the only reason I had fun was because my friends were there.
Just some advice, get better DJ's. It was like torture for my ears to listen to the crap that was playing yesterday (I left at 5:30pm, so I'm not sure who played afterwards or if the music got better). For example, next week, you should have Deliquent Frequencies play OUTSIDE, rather than that little room. Or if you want more housier/upbeat music... get other DJs that plays GOOD house music. There are so many talented DJ's in LA (a lot of them post on here and you are friends with them). Also, I know David plays wayyyyyyyyyyyy better than what he played yesterday, and the stuff he was playing 2 weeks ago. David knows how to deliver some sick music, but why is he lowering his standards by playing more commercial stuff?
I want to be able to come to Aqua Groove parties more often and actually enjoy the music.
But then again, if music isn't your #1 concern, then disregard everything you read above.
*just some friendly constructive critism* :) |

Thank you Julia but as a broad minded promoter we have to be mindful that 99% of the population isn't into minimal techhouse. Most of our residents can play commercial or very underground as you have heard my broski do before. We had a very commercial audience outside and a very underground sound inside featuring the HAWT crew. I am mindful of these things and I know as good as Matt and Jake are (matt is one of my resident dj's)their sound wouldn't be appropriate for the outside as we are trying to maintain a balance between entertainment and underground appeal. Other than that it looked like to me that everybody had a blast and are coming back for more.
Funny thing my brother gets slammed for playing too underground by some or too commercial by others. LOL He played to entertain as did Steve Prior and Aaron Michael who did an excellent job.
Well at least 99.99999% of the crowd seemed to pretend to be into it. :toocool: |

im also that kind of dj that has to know the balance between commercial/accessible and underground. I spin straight up underground sounds on my podcast, and at my residency on Saturdays here in SB I play house remixes/mashups. You can never completely satisfy any crowd no matter what u do. I do my homework before any gig and learn what crowd im playing for and then prepare my style for that particular crowd.
Thats cool JC that you have music for everybody at your pool party. |

| i think that was my favorite D-Mo set to date. Nice mixture of house and tribal, pretty much what we heard in the electronic music mecca known as the WMC. . . :) |

| I've been meaning to check these out sometime, and this maybe the perfect week, since I'm sure I'm going to need a "Post-Kaskade" recovery party ... |

It doesn't have to be minimal tech house or underground music... You can still play cool/happy/upbeat house music that would be perfect for day time pool parties and that crowd... and not annoying-cheesey-retarded-old-played out crap.
The moment I heard that Warp Borthers song on Sunday (I think Aaron Michael played it), I was like ok THAT'S IT, my hang over from last night is getting worse, and I have GOT to go home now. lol |

I think it was Josh Wink - Higher State of Conciousness (dirty south rmx)
and tbh, i think that song got the best reaction out of the crowd out of his entire set LOL.
geeeeze Julia, you have to understand that your taste in music is in the EXTREME minority, even i thought it was decent. I thought steve played some good stuff later, but i guess you were already gone by then |
