can't decide what to upgrade next

I'm having a lot of trouble trying to decide what to upgrade first in my dj setup

So my current setup is 2x CDJ 200's, a Numark dxm 06, and I'm running Torq off my desktop because my laptop has a ton of hard drive noise. I eventually want to get a new laptop that I can solely dedicate to my mixing.

Before today I planned on upgrading my dxm 06 mixer to a PioneerDJM-400 before anything else. But then today I found a cheap cdj 1000 on craigslist for 480$ This sounds like a steal and would definitely be an upgrade for me. I need to upgrade everything eventually, I'm just trying to figure out what should come first. I know I should upgrade my mixer to get a decent one, but the cdj 1000 is so cheap.

Anyway, I'm just curious what other TA's would do in my situation.

That price seems pretty cheap for a CDJ-1000, how old is it? I'd be wary of a well used 1000 MK1 or MK2.

Your 200's are pretty decent, but I can see how not having vinyl emulation is tad annoying when used with a DVS.

I'd say go for a better mixer or new laptop.

P.S. You can do better than the DJM-400. It's lack of a record output or booth output will really limit you in the future. Don't be lured solely by the effects, look at any mixer purely as a mixer first, effects are simply superfluous. The new Eclers look great and are in that same price range (2.0, 3.0, etc.).

I would go with the mixer upgrade first. I've got a 400 with Torq actually and it's a great quality mixer. The only downside, like Ryan aid, is the lack of a booth out and balanced outs. If you never plan on taking it with you and playing out, it's not a big deal. Hell, even if you do, it's still not a big deal. I've used my 400 on a huge outdoor stage for an event and it worked and sounded fine.

The lack of a record out is a bigger deal for me.

How the F do you record your sets? If you use the other master out, that means you can't touch the master volume control on the mixer or your recording will also pick it up... really lameo.

Ecler 2.0 :)

It's a little scratch oriented but the feature set is great for the price and size.

I see what you're saying but I've never had a problem by just using the gain to adjust volume.

Going from the Numark to any 2 chan mixer with better build quality: Denon, Pioneer, Ecler, A+H, Rane, maybe even the Mackie D2
and you will notice a WORLD of difference. It really makes mixing that much more enjoyable.

Think of it like going from a Ford Escort to a BMW, Benz etc.

I went from a DM1002MKII to a DNX1500S. Blown away.

Save you money and get a mixer that works for you. Its worth it.

btw, the sound quality is NOTICEABLE between Numarks and something more high-end.

I couldnt be happier with my ecler nuo 2 . sounds amazing and does what it needs too. Oh and they layout is sweet aswell.

so the sound out of the Ecler is far superior to the Numark? Just watched that video on it and it really looks great. Very simple and straightforward.

Upgrade the mixer for sure.

I just made a small upgrade... from two CDJ200's and a DJX700 to a DJM400 and a couple of CDJ1000mk3's.

I have to say I am having more fun with the mixer upgrade than I am with the 1000s (not that I dont like the 1000s :D)

Mixer = most important piece of your setup imo
