good luck with Sacto.
sacramento mostly consists of a handfull of dj's playing all the same clubs playing all the same music:mad:
unless your playing comercial house or hip hop it can be tough, and unfortunatly techno and trance will scare most people away from anything in sacramento.

yeah thats the only way pretty much. DEMOS mean jack to promoters/club owners. The ONLY way to get gigs is by knowing the right people. The only way you can do that is by going out and showing your face at places. Meet other dj's and see who they know. Get them to introduce you to people. You wont mean to a club/promoter unless you can bring in a crowd and boost the alcohol sales. LOL.

Its crazy seeing some people get a lot of gigs without ever putting out any demos. But like I said, its about who you know.

it sucks really. there are so many local djs that are just horrid but get tons of weekly gigs. thats the way of the dj world. learn to use the force my son.

This advice from DJ Graham Gold from the UK, who's been DJ'ing since 1963:

Make your own music. Most of the top DJ's today have produced their own songs and play them out for loyal crowds. When the song the fans like is yours, nobody else can quite spin it better.

Build it, and the groupies will come.

The fine print: Your mileage may vary. I tried this, was learning to beatmatch, then bought my own keyboard and sequencers. My software had conflicts, keyboard wouldn't map properly to Sonar, and my work schedule went crazy so I was inundated with the morass...I really do think it's the best approach though. That's why I'm going to get a Mac loaded with Logic someday and try it again!

I asked my Dutch friend once when he would stop making songs, and he replied "When I die, one should never give up on their passion!" It's good advice, I think.
