Past a certain level it just becomes noise to me... Does anyone else feel this way?

Last night I made a concious effort to keep the volume level in check - loud but not TOO loud, Gareth had never played at Ruby and ultimately he turned it up after I was done but I am interested to hear what people out in the audience thought about last night and just this subject in general.

Thanks!
JW

stand out front towards the middle of the night and you might notice, as i have, the annoyed patrons who leave early while complaining amongst their friends and sometimes to indifferent bouncers about how it's way too loud inside. only a few headliners know how to eq the system so that it isn't overbearing. others unfamiliar with the sound on the floor will jack up the gains on the mixer to work the crowd up for the moment not realizing how deafening it is down there. it might sound good for that one track if everyone's into it, but it wears on people standing out there real quick. before long the crowd is leaving because of ear fatigue, and as the floor thins out and the levels stay up, it only gets worse. this has been brought up on ta before as well. kaskade and glaude are amongst the worst offenders.

Yeah, actually I did a search on the subject and found quite a few references to Ruby being too loud... happy to know I'm not the only one... I'll mention it to the managment, it would be good to inform the DJ's in advance that the system is not tuned/designed to be maxed out as it does literally drive people off the floor.

...it's either that or have them turn down the whole system so a DJ CAN max out the mixer without it being too loud, which is what 1015 use to do when I was resident there and they probably still do.

I have made it known over and over again that if there's any complaints that people constantly have about Ruby is that the sound system is too loud quite often...or there's too much bass.

Everytime I bring it up to someone (multiple people), the response is just about always thatthe DJ can turn it down if he wants....buttt....the sound is no where near as loud up in the DJ area, even next to the monitors, than it can get down on the floor so the DJ prob doesn't even realize that it's getting too loud for the crowd.

...maybe someone who will take the complaint to heart at Ruby will listen...

It should be possible to turn the house sound down to keep it at a sane level...outside of the levels the DJ controls.

I simply was in bliss that evening!!!
Some of my fav trax:
Mark Knight & Funkagenda - The Man With The Red Face (I kept wanting to hear "You're listening to the Gareth Emery Podcast" during the climax)
Armin van Buuren feat. Jaren - Unforgiveable (TOPS!!)
Lange feat Sarah Howells - Out Of The Sky (on his Essential Mix)
Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren - Light The Skies (always a treat)
First State Feat Elliot Johns - Your Own Way (of course, why not?)

Simply the best!!!

James Williams, thanks for the GL add too!! I have to say, I like what I heard. Great night! I even enjoyed it more than A&B last night!!

i am absolutely horrible at keeping track of track names.. but there was a track gareth played that a lot of others are playing. it has a rough whoosh whoosh sound? any ideas? and i'm probably so out of the loop the track is a year old by now and was in everyone's top ten. i'm relistening to gareth's podcasts trying to find it.

Many DJs (myself included) get so use to pushing a sound system to it's limit, cranking the master volume all the way up, pushing the meter right to the edge if not into the red... Ruby's sound system is world class and according to an older article I was reading it is capable of over 60,000 watts of power.

I've been saying this for SOOO long. Djs hear the moniters, but not necessarily how powerful the main sound is at Ruby. And then you get carried away, louder is better right? For some sets, it works sort of, but for like Above and Beyond... I couldn't hear the songs.. just the booming bass.

Before I forget I want to thank INXCESS for turning me on to that John Dahlback track "Don't Speak", I had not heard it before but at his request I tracked it down, played it on Friday and it was really great.
