So Obama is suggesting current American policy is incorrect, and that the entire international community should be ignored? Sounds to me more like Obama has no idea there is a West and East Jerusalem (which Israel has no legal right over) |

what should it revolve around? he has to try to appease many different groups, and as of now, the US doesn't have a large muslim relations lobby. the fact is, for the most part, people in the US could give a about muslim causes. obama can still support israel while taking a much less aggresive approach in the middle east - simply ceasing the preemptive war policy seems like a huge step forward. he could also counter much of the anti american feelings by increasing no strings attached humanitarian aid to the palestinians and other muslims. that should counter some negative feelings for supporting israel. people's feelings about something are generally more affected by a direct impacts than what they see on TV. If US aid is on the ground, and the people know and see thate americans are helping them, the aid and support to israel will be less harmful to the US because that is something they can't directly see. |

Obama quickly backtracked yesterday in an interview with CNN.
"Well, obviously, it's going to be up to the parties to negotiate a range of these issues. And Jerusalem will be part of those negotiations," Obama said when asked whether Palestinians had no future claim to the city.

Obama said "as a practical matter, it would be very difficult to execute" a division of the city. "And I think that it is smart for us to -- to work through a system in which everybody has access to the extraordinary religious sites in Old Jerusalem but that Israel has a legitimate claim on that city."

That only adds to my point, he's totally full of it and is simply telling every group what they'd like to hear, a true politican. So this guy is not going to cave in to AIPAC's pressure and influence? You know which country is next in line in the "war on terror," so let's not kid ourselves here... unless you're really that gullible and willing to believe in this "man of change." |
