was talking about this last night with a friend, id&t are very clever to host this party on new years eve, currently we have nothing on this night :)
secondly they are going mainstream with the promotion, sensation white is a brand name these days, which means people are going to go no matter who they bring down |

My suspicion is that if i give this night a miss the only thing i will miss is some mind blowing production.....music wise for 45000 people you will need to be fairly commercially friendly to the crowd and its on NYE and events on this date can be very hit and miss
....and i'll be perth so i can't make |

it is definately a maissve testicle sunrise...i have nfi about who is playing but for some reason the idea of Fat Boy playing at this event and everyone loving does not seem to far fetched
Thats why im wondering if the event is soley ID & T because if it is we are going to get a pretty sweet line up |

Its a tough one to call. I'll give some insight into Sensation White to try and paint a picture for you all.
I went to Sensation White in Amsterdam 2006. Its was held at the Amsterdam arena soccer stadium. Arrived at about 9pm and the event was scheduled to start at 10pm. They already had doors open as the party itself is famous for the 'opening ceremony' so to speak. There was no line because every ticket had gate entry, so quick it was unbelievable yet when we inside there were already thousands inside. The centre of the 'soccer field' was a fully rotating circular DJ console stuffed with only god knows how many speakers and subs. The entire floor space around it is rubberish with bars and small stalls at each corner (with heaps more outside the arena). You can easily walk up into the stands to sit down with perfect view of the party, which are higher than vodaphone, probably more comparable to Telstra dome. There is a small section which fronts onto the centre/closest edge of the DJ console, this was the VIP section. When it started at 10pm it was sick, fireworks, flames, freaky people walking around, people pulled up from the crowd onto the stage for a quirky part in the show. In short, no production I have seen in Melb inc Armin Only the other night has come close.
There was only the main room, and the line up was a mixture of trance and house. David Guetta, Steve Angello, Sander Klienenberg (spelling), Ferry Corsten and couple of other guys that most of us would not know but are big over in Europe. Doesnt sound that big eh? Well there was a surprise DJ at midnight who wasnt announced, Tiesto, he played for 45mins only. When he popped up and dropped Kane - Rain Down on me. The crowd of 30000-40000 went bonkers. The crowd over there was so different to what you get here, more were in the late 20's to mid 30's range (wierd eh? Probably coz of the age of the scene in Europe). Heaps of bars, no toilet waits, no problems getting drinks, no problems getting seats to watch the show or to have a bop on the dance floor, etc. Events at the Sydney Myer music absolutely SUCK for this and is the reason why FMF this year was probably my last party there...Anyways. Enough reminiscing about the past.
I think Melb has the potential to pull the crowd, whether it will or not is another thing. Problem is, Summadayze attracts the numbers because of its more commercial appeal. Ie. If you ask everyone at Summadayze if they know what Sensation White is, I would say 80% would not know. Sensation White will need to do the same and will be competing head on with Summadayze which has its heels well and truly dug in. Promoting it as a full on trance gig will not bring the numbers, it will need to mix it up. Will be a tough nut to crack, but they have the cash, they have the time and most importantly they can pull just about any DJ they want, especially given its pretty much the 'off season' in Europe and America for big doofs (being Winter).
Theyll have to set up Telstra dome pretty well to get anywhere near what I saw in Amsterdam and if they do and they get the numbers it would be one hell of a party, especially being the first in Aus/southern hemisphere.
Bring back the NYE parties to melb! If its on, I know where I'll be going, and it wont be summadayze. |
