Before that, it was last year.

Free until 12, and nothing will ever get packed at 12.

Well, it was bound to happen at a point. It happened to trance with the wave of dutch djs and again with the whole electro sound 2 years ago, and I guess the music industry needs a new trend. It will be a matter of months before this trend becomes old and people will eventually get sick of it. |

all depands how the sound will evolve. so far i been loving how techno got less head numbing in a way. the reason for it i think is because new talent making music with different point of view on the genre and because the DJs that made the switch to new sound are coming from house background that has an entertaining flow to it.
PS. Get your hands on early electro/minimal mixes from Vath & Hawtin/ May that will blow your mind how fawking awesome it sounded for early 90's. |

but techno seems to be making a big come back with music starting to sound better then it used to be but nevertheless in a sense of old school style industrial (afterhours) banging tempo that gets me usually into stumping on the dance floor. |
what is not to love about techno making that comeback :D
I honestly started with trance back in 2003, but then I found techno in 2004/05 (thanks to Preach when he was banging techno back then and playing Aria every Friday night in Montreal) and I haven't looked back since.
The only unfortunate thing is that most of the techno acts I love don't come to North America, so I need to make the travel to Europe to see them. |

Well, I guess we missunderstood each other possibly but I am actually making a point of techno making its way back into the main stream. |
the above statement is going to kill the techno scene |

My travel plans going to Europe always include a flight into Frankfurt first thing on the night Hawtin + Vath play Cocoon. |

Too late.... Like trance, maybe 10%, at best, of the tracks I hear in techno sets are sounding good anymore.... I think every mother's brother has beaten it to death already (minimal, I'm talking about), whereas, however, techno (TECHNO techno) will always survive... The style of and energy of Chris Liebing will always be more pleasing to my ears than most tech producers post-2005, I think there's only a certain amount of combinations of wierd sounds you can put together. Afterwards, like trance, it's just an copy of a copy of a copy of a copy, with very few people breaking boundaries (like Maetrik or Phil Kieran and Dusty Kid). |

Isn't the 10% rule true of all EDM? I mean think of how many ty electro house producers there are for every deadmau5/chris lake/dirty south. Like all music, the more popular something becomes, the greater the likelihood for ty knockoffs. But, if it weren't for ty popular stuff, the good stuff might not see light of day. It's like we talked about in the DJ Sammy thread. Even though he's got no credibility with the underground, DJ Sammy (and similar acts) brought trance to the masses and made it more paletable to the general public, and as such allowed the more underground acts to get more recognition. Can't do a US tour of a techno act unless people outside of NYC have heard of them :D |

techno has always been around
just was not as popular
like reen said the music scene has been changeing like from 2004 minimal became very big out of nowhere and has been popular ever since, but since like maybe 2007 it has been going more of the techno sound like a higher bpm and a lil more drums so i like to use the term "maximal" but as for straight up me while iam running banging techno it will be around but its just not as popular right now
but it will make its way back times change
like i said before everyone was playing minimal and switchin their styles, now more techno sound has come into the picture and ina few years maybe the sound will be a lil bit faster and harder we will have to see
even nyc dj's have been switchin their styles
that big room tribal sound is not what it used to be alot of dj's are playing less and less of it and i just dont mean the big djs i mean even the local djs at pacha basement, alot of the times i go down there its lots of minimal/tech house
for me personally i just dont like how techno is mislabled when its really minimal (via beatport) makes me sick
so on the dance floor i could listen to maybe a hour or 2 of minimal but then i need some more drums and wicked baselines to get my ass moving
speaking of techno...anyone know when carl cox is commin back? :toothless
guy tore pacha to shreds last year |
