Make sure you've closed any TCP/UDP connection programs, such as uTorrent, Ares, etc. Those are main bandwidth hogs and will kill your connection. I'm actually having problems right now with the same thing at home running wireless off a Dynex router.

Make sure you've also added the ports to your router's protocols. Disable the window's firewall too.

i don't even have service pack 3 on there; i was thinking maybe AT&T was filtering, but i don't think they've ever done that, and my friend who has them said he didn't have any difficulty

You should consider something like Tomato Firmware. My uncle uses that at his house and we've added port after port without any problems. Other than that, I don't even know where to continue helping dude. I only learned from what'd happened to me earlier this year in my apartment. I'm actually considering getting Tomato here soon.

I have SP2, and it happened to me, so I understand. ATT wont block anything either, or at least Ive never heard of such thing.

also, I know this sounds silly, but my brother had the same thing happened to him and he has comcast. He got pissed, bought a new router, and apparently that resolved the problem lol.
