Who gets paid to spin and who is just in it for tha love? I was just curious of the type of people that visit the forum.

Oh, and how much do you think these really big DJs (okenfold, PVD)demand before they show up to a venue? Just poken my nose around.

I'm just starting to play out, so I don't even demand $$$ to spin, just being able to spin infront of a bunch of peeps is payment enough for me! :)

Oakenfold goes for $25,000 on a weekend right now. I'm not exactly sure what he demands as a deposit...most likely $10,000 or so. Pretty insane if you ask me, especially because they get to keep that money even if they don't show!

PVD goes for $15,000 right now, Sasha and Diggers both make a nice $30K each when they play at Twilo!

Yousers!
Peace,
Steve :D

There's no money in spinning, unless your one of the big names, and have your own label...In Toronto and Montreal there are so many djs you can pay'm $200-300 a night to do the job...The majority of people really care about who's spinning at a club, and how the mixing is...as long as they play the popular songs everythings cool.

Of course Tranceaddicts are the opposite...we demand perfection...

Regarding how much Big names get paid...I think Tiesto got 10-15 thousand for his set at government in Toronto

Some of you guys work in a record shop or what?
Cause you know a hell of a lot about all this music.

There was an article in ministry this month about this very topic of how much DJ's get paid. It went like this :

Jeremy healey - £2500
Carl Cox - £5000
Paul Oakenfold - £10,000
Sonique(yeah dj ...nooo) - £5000
Sasha - £5000
Norman Cook - no comment !

This came straight from the horses mouths but i think they are being a TAD modest about how much they get paid. I have heard people say Oakey gets in excess of £20,000. Anyways

Peace

That's a lot of money,
about as much as Dutch popstars (like Frans Bauer :D ... Dutch people know who I mean) make.

Only these popstar dudes charge that much for ONE HOUR!
It's really insane.

On the other hand:
Dj's have to buy a lot of stuff recently and most of the money they make they invest in new records and equipement.

the good dj's dont have to pay for records...they get them all for free from the record labels. well, they might buy an odd record from the store.
my bro used to be a dj, and all he played was an internet radio show, and parties for his friends and stuff and the record companies would send him records every single day for free. pre-releases and promos, all that good stuff.

Sure, that makes alot of sense. It's free advertising for the labels and artists. If Tiesto plays a certain song from a new (or established artist) during his sets, then lots of people will end up buying it and all it cost them was one vinyl.

this is just insane how much these dj's make!! it's not like it's a hard job or anything, i know they have a god given talent but $100,000 a night!! for that amount of money, you better be shaking everyone's hand and signing records that you're giving out to the crowd for free!!
