But to defeat the argument on it's own grounds, international sport has always been riddled with this type of strife. Dating back to the Olympics of Ancient Greece, athletes often switched to whatever city-state they felt was going to offer them the most benefits. Judging by Poland's loss to Germany, and their poor defense of goal so far today vs Austria, you can't blame him for jumping from a sinking ship.

And just as a side note, I always find entertainment when players know they can't make their own country's team then choose to jump ship. A la Brett Hull and the US national hockey team. Yes, his dad's American, but he was born and raised here!!! |
