AMD vs Intel for laptop

HP seems like the most recommended laptop out there and I'm thinking about their dv6700 15 inch laptops which come in AMD and Intel varieties for about the same price.

Any testimonials on such laptops either way?

I can get a AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology Gold Edition TL-68 (2.4 GHz) or an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.50GHz).
Subtle
Core 2 Duo offers roughly 25% better performance than AMD per IPC (Instructions per cycle)

So, that Intel CPU @ 2.5 is the equivalent to an AMD @ 3 GHZ ++

In other words, go for Intel.

That and core2Duo's consume less power and generate less heat than AMD's.

oh i saw an article on this somewhere saying that ipc is skewed... i wish i had a link... oh well

can you find out how many megaflops each machine gives you then divide that by dollars? heh

a laptop? grrrr

:S

hp is the same consumer grade stuff as almost every other company. hp, compaq, dell, etc. are all mostly made in one factory - compal. hp is just an oem.

in my oppinion, clevo and asus are the premium laptop factories.

there's a huge difference between the quality of of hp consumer notebooks (pavillion) and the business line (mostly called compaq this days). i really like my HP 8510 (though i don't use it for production) pretty awesome build quality. and i would take it over asus any day.

I would have to agree with Echosystem on this. I've had some lousy experiences with HP and Compaq Pc's. Never dealt with asus directly, but regularly use a friends laptop which is an asus. It's great.
