Strange "clipping" noise in Live

So, I'm working in Live and every now and then i start to hear this fuzzy "clipping" noise that really starts to get on my nerves. Nothing in my project is clipping though. My CPU power is hovering around 60%, and occasionally spikes which MIGHT be the cause, but I doubt it right now.

I'm using an EMU 0404 USB on a Dell laptop, which has (i think) enough processing power. Also I'm running several instances of z3ta at the same time. Yeah, I know how to bounce to audio and all that but I'm just getting confused because it appears that what I have is WELL below the limits of my computer. I'm just afraid its some kind of defect with the E-MU? Or its a problem with the ASIO driver? Cuz sometimes when i play music in my media player (using the ASIO) it'll start crackling too. Does anyone know what this is? Thanks!

Do you experience tracks clipping, or the whole song? Have you tried muting tracks individually to see what may be causing the problem. Sometimes it is one track that is causing issues and isolating it by muting one at a time may help... ?

I've had this happen on specific channels. What I did was move the midi notes a tiny fraction to the side and it fixed it.

If the notes are a tiny bit off, depending on your processing power and the settings of the attack, delay etc on the synth, you can get a clip.

no its not at all track specific. its like this weird buzzing/crackling noise and doesnt sound like what clipping would do. for example when it happens in winamp using the ASIO drive, it'll start happening like if i'm browsing the web or something. once it starts it gets worse really fast, and then after i stop the music it lingers about for a couple seconds. its really really strange.
