Gas was around a dollar when I first started driving. 20 bucks would get me 3/4 of a tank. Now I only get about 1/4 of a tank for 20 =/

Gas got as low as $.88 in Sacramento back in like 1999 or 2000. That was cheap!

In March 2000, in SF, gas was $1.80/gallon.
The cheapest gas in the country was $1.39...in Wyoming.

The average price for SF throughout 2000 was $1.88.

The average price for SF throughout 1998 was about $1.25-$1.30

Consider inflation, and gas in 1980 was more expensive to the average person than it was in 2000. Factor in inflation, and gas would be $2.66/gal in 1980
