I would have to disagree with you there. Even if the sound system gave it more bass there is a fine line between tribal and minimal; it's not just the bass.
Vibe played a lot of diva house, which was good filler in between the madness, but I'd say that more than 75% of what was played was tribal or 'tribal influenced'.
Like Stephan said, this was my favourite Vibe set ever! Sure, because it was my first experience at Stereo it meant a whole lot more to me, but the set itself was just delicious tribaliciousness. I was expecting something totally proggy and experimental.

I agree with your statement that Vibe played a lot of diva house. I was talking to one of the promoters at Stereo and he said, "it's good to play some of the diva house as it releases the tension [it was intense] and it keeps the gays happy"
75% of the tracks were tribal? Are you nuts? There was a LOT of tribal influenced tech, but it wasn't straight tribal. The bass really gives a lot of songs their punch, but just because it sounds bassy and loud, doesn't mean it's tribal.
What time did you guys get there/leave? I'm curious to know as this may influence your opinion of the music of the night. |

Last time I checked, there was a label for this: tech tribal. Still a subgenre ;)
We got there shortly after 2 am and left at 10:30. I hope he didn't play longer than 12 am... |

Loco Dice will be at Piknic Electronik on the Sunday after Calderone. I am guessing he will take a water taxi off of the boat, hop on the island airport and fly straight to Montreal. You can catch him there.
Stereo is going to be a sauna as well. I've seen Calderone 4 times at Stereo and it's always a sauna.

Ah we can argue this all day long, but I think the tribal influenced tech is still not tribal. If you listen to Vibe's awesome radio shows, you can hear that Vibe is playing more glitchy and experimental with a lot of tech and minimal. It kinda reflected in his set at Stereo...

I dunno... I get claustrophopic in footwork when it's packed. Stereo is bigger and I can venture up onto the stairs and get some room. |

I dunno about that....Calderone is at Stereo like 4 times a year. Loco Dice will probably be on a boat cruise in Toronto once ever.

yeah but that's the price I would have to pay for going out to Stereo before....
I will admit, I really had to weigh things... I haven't seen Calderone since 2006 and he's one of my favs. I saw locodice last year...
I am missing a fab boatcruise... but I have a funny feeling I won't regret it ;)
