where have you been living? they've been talking about the probable existence of water on mars for years. when NASA says there's likely to be water on mars, finally finding it a decade later isn't all that interesting because they'd spoiled the surprise. |

Are you serious? Mars has polar ice caps that I was taught about far back in elementary school. Look at a picture of the planet then try telling me that it was "never confirmed."

Presense of water was not officially confirmed until now. furthermore, I don't believe that the ice caps were claimed to be made of water. there were numerous theories about it - methane, hydrogen, nitrogen, etc. water was one of those but not confirmed.
that's why it is such a big deal that we are now one step closer to figuring out our origins. |
