MEXICO CITY, Mexico (CNN) -- Twelve people died in a rush for the exit Friday night during a raid on a nightclub in northern Mexico City, police said.
Officials remove a body from the nightclub in Mexico City.
The raid at 6:30 p.m. resulted in a rush for the doors that left two minors and three police officers among the dead, said Joel Ortega, secretary of public security.
Police said they were sent to the club after hearing that drugs and alcohol were being sold to minors. The legal age for drinking is 18.
Thirty-nine people were arrested, including the owner of the club, who was accused of instigating the stampede by announcing the raid on a microphone and of not having enough emergency exits.
Ortega said the club had one entrance plus an emergency exit, which was obstructed by cases of beer, The Associated Press reported.
"Many of the people concentrated at the club's emergency exit, but it was too small and it was there that people died of asphyxia," Ortega told Televisa, according to AP.
Ortega said about 500 young people were at the club to celebrate the end of school and many more were outside waiting to get in, AP reported.
Riot police were sent to control scores of distraught relatives and friends that gathered at the scene, AP reported.
And now the owner will certainly face 12 charges of manslaughter for instigating a stampede.

Yea! I think it was a tardeada cuz it was for minors. Many clubs in Mexicali do the same thing. They open the club right after school starts but they kick all the minors out around 9pm.

Actually, depending on how much money he has that decides how much they are going to throw the book at him. More money u have the less likely they will put all 12 accounts on you.
If the guy has "clout" and cash he will end up serving a minimal sentence if that. But if the guy is broke, they will throw the book on him hard and he will serve a decent sentence.
Its similar here in the US, the more cash you have the better chances of you getting away with something.
Just ask OJ, R Kelly, Jackson etc etc. Those people were CLEAR AS DAY guilty, yet they are all living it up right now. :whip:
On the other side of the spectrum, you have Nick Bolea (Hulk Hogans son). That kid man'd the up, i had no respect for the kid prior. But he gained all the respect in the world from me because he didn't bull and pleaded guilty. He could have easily pulled an R Kelly and delayed the trial for 6+ years fight it and win, but the kid didn't. I would buy the guy a beer if i ran into him in a real life...

This very true and it's even more evident in MX. Depends on who he knows and how much money he's pushing through that club. If he saved most of it for a "rainy day" or bribe then could be getting off easy.

Very sad and true.
Also I believe clubs have safety regulations ,Here in mexico and in a lot of other places in the world you just pay the inspector for your license without even inspecting to see if the club has taken care of all the safety regulations.
This happened in my country (Peru) some years ago about 30 people dead . The owners didn't get away with it though because some of those dead people were the sons of Senators.
May their souls rest in peace...
bigperf

you'd buy a spoiled brat who raced his dad's supra into a tree while driving drunk--turning a marine vet into a vegetable--a beer just cause he admitted guilt to an undeniable crime? that garnered your respect for him??? you sir have impossibly high standards! that's just what that tool needs too, another beer! :haha:
