Nope!

And this is the second time I've heard someone in their 20s ask this question in a week. :wtf:

Common sense ftw. American mentality ftl.

basically!

aging occurs when environmental toxants compromise your dna and reduces blood flow causing cells to replicate less accurately and function less effectively every generation until the entire gland/organ/system is too weak to function properly and fails, or becomes tumorous. 2 easy ways to age quickly are sitting on your ass all day (reduces blood flow) and eating like (environmental toxants).

so here's a few techniques for living longer and stronger:

- eat a healthy, balanced diet of natural, minimally-processed foods. check out macrobiotic diets for example. read labels and stay away from additives, colorings, substitutes, preservatives, transfats, partially hydrogenated oils, bpa plastic packaging, etc. at least half the crap sold at safeway is bad for you!
- live a non-sedentary lifestyle with regular exercise and/or a lot of "neat" (non exercise associated thermogenesis) activity to keep your metabolism up, circulation strong, and to burn off excess calories before they are converted into fat layers that wear on your system
- enjoy full nights of regenerative sleep on a regular basis. full sleep requires that you awake naturally. if you wake up to alarms every morning, you are sleep deprived and sleep deprivation has a cumulative effect on health, mood and memory
- keep your mind sharp by learning constantly, being curious and creative, and practicing what you know. the brain is like a muscle and is subject to atrophy. it's constantly shedding dendrites to run more efficiently so if you don't use it, you will lose it. one reason why i bother writing all this out is that it reinforces it in my own head so that it becomes harder for me to forget over time
- learn stress management. everyone has stress in their lives, but not every situation triggers the same stress response out of everyone. stressed out people are more prone to disease and typically live shorter lives. lingering stress hormones damage every system in your body so it's important to know how to control them when they aren't necessary, which is 99% of the time. this is another reason why exercise is good--it reduces stress.
- practice "smart" partying, which involves awareness of what alcohol and other drugs do to your liver, heart/arteries and brain, and offsetting such damage with moderation and even nutraceuticals
- quit smoking cigarettes! or at least cut back to only when you're at the club so that it's easier to quit when you decide to make plans to do so (which you should asap!)

the feeling of oldness is an endocrine response that tells you something isn't working like it used to. if you make the necessary adjustments and stick with it, you'll find the human body is incredibly plastic. you should be able to regain the feeling of youthfulness for most of your life. if you stay healthy, you can live to 120 and feel young up to the day you croak. if not, you could croak at 60 feeling broken for the last 10 years of your life. that would be a shame in this day and age. don't depend on medical science to provide a fix down the road. that's not a good bet to place...

healthy diet: check (vegetarian)
exercise: check ( teach yoga, cycling, i hike, run, and DANCE)
smoking: check, i don't
sleep: well 6 out of 7 nights isn't bad right?
keeping mind challenged: check, i teach algebra to junior high kids, and try to stay one step ahead of those little fckers :)
drinking: almost never during the week and if i don't go to the clubs i usually don't on the weekends either

so maybe that's why i don't feel old, most of the time. also, it's a state of mind, if you constantly talk about feeling old or say omg, i'm getting so old, etc then you will feel old. words are powerful, don't give power to negative words :)

Exactly.

I only feel old when I realize that some of the girls I date are young enough to be my kids..

then I roll over, fall asleep and forget about the whole thing..

I know our 10 rounder that one night was great!!! :tongue3 :tongue3 :tongue3

But dating women older than me definitely has its benefits. They usually love to cook and take me out, buy me clothes, clean, etc. A lot of "motherly" qualities.
TSG
Aren't they sweet! You also get other benefits! :gsmile:

But... sooner or later, they get tired of it! :stongue:
