See that's the thing. You and I post our pics, and both of us have people approach us saying, hey, "Your a TA"
Now we could have always made our user names anonymous and we could have just used TA as a tool to make fun of and put others down to make us feel better about ourselves. (I know it's not our style, but there are others...)

Ha! I mix that KIIS FM Stuff with House every week. That's the format I play in OC and I got a pretty decent following in that scene. However, I'm always booked!!! Hehehe That's why I never go out anymore.

And that is why you are always booked! You don't spin solely house music.
I kinda feel sorry for hardcore trance/house DJ's since they barely get booked do to the fact that there isn't that much demand for the music in LA.
It is definitely getting better! It is only here that top 40/hip hop is the default genre. Go to anywhere in Europe and all you hear is house. Even in the internet cafe's!
Pacha in Barcelona had a hip hop night Wednesday nights in the small room, that was about it. |

1. I saw Richard Vission at QTopia like 5 years ago...before it did the Vanguard transition. It was all ages and a decent sized crowd that night. I have seen RV twice in LA since then, at 21+ clubs, and the crowd was weak both of those times.
2. If you spin one style, the style you play will determine the opportunities a lot. Example, a prog-trance or trance DJ will get far fewer bookings (thinking opening slots) than prog-house, house, and techno DJs. Why? Because prog-house, house, and techno DJs can build a set that not only please a crowd that listens to the style they play, but their styles can often crossover well with crowds there for a headliner of another genre if they are good...ala, a prog, house, or techno DJ can often open up just fine and with good taste to a trance DJ. Pure trance DJs often times suck ass opening for trance DJs because they have no clue how to build a set well. It's such a risk that some trance headliners simply don't want a prog-trance/trance DJ opening for them. If you are a pure trance DJ and want to get somewhere locally, you have to expand your horizon and actually care for that music. That's all I'll say...
3. A DJ who is versatile across genres will can showcase their tastes across all the styles and have a better chance at impressing the booking peeps....so obviously they will have the most opportunities, but #2 is def a legit statement still.... |

yeah... book Woody aka jesse alexander the great... Spundae did (both at Circus and avalon) and he always pulled a pretty good crowd...
