Sound card question

So this is a bit tech thread related, but no one will respond in there...but i currently have a Santa Cruz Turtle Beach that has been a very decent card. The connections are getting staticky and the oldness of the card and incompatibility with EAX, etc is making running even older games annoying. The acceleration has to be turned down to basic or the sound is ed up, or laggy.

Basically: what is a decent/newish card that wont sacrifice audio playback but be more compatible and not rediculously expensive. Ive looked at the Audigy 2 (good but a bit more than i really wanna pay), the Audigy SE looks alright (i think this is the best choice), but there are likely other options. I am not making music or recording much so it doesnt need to be fantastic - just newer than 1999 and decent.

you should be able to get a basic sound card for under $40.
check your motherboard for an on-board sound card though.

it does have on board sound, terrible...

the cards i mentioned are both under 40 bucks on the net, i am just wondering if anyone has experience with either or something else. basic is what i already have, i want something decent, but not incredible...

ehh well, i will likely just have to decide myself

the sound card is the easiest choice ...

do you need to hookup external hardware to your soundcard?
no = any basic sound card under $40 covers all your gaming needs up to 5.1 surround yada yada.

use the money to upgrade more important computer parts, such as a bottle opener mouth for your tower panel.
