Once a day, if you count listening to a half-finished track 3 times and adjusting the position of a single hi-hat as producing.
Otherwise... rarely. :( |
thats the best way imo :)
Sometimes i start up the project and adjust a channel with 3 volume knob range and get back to gaming :p |

I'm basically the same way.
Although instead of staring at a blank screen I'll mostly be making beats endlessly. It's only when I start putting the synths in that the track really starts coming together. |

Agreed 100%, I am just the same, its about coincidence when you start it up a few weeks later, either i get bored after 5 minutes or it turns into something |

As long as people are happy with where they're currently at, with their current rate of development and output, it's fine. Life is all about priorities. Just because someone likes producing trance, doesn't mean they don't like their job as a lawyer (for example) even more. Obviously, they'd spend much more time reading about legal issues, learning new distinctions which will enable them to do their job more effectively.
In the end, the way we spend each hour of each day reflects what is important to us. Time is precious, we only get one allotment of it. If one has made a decision to dedicate one's life to something, then their life will reflect that...they will work consistently towards what they want every day. It's not a question of whether they "feel like it" or not. That's not part of the equation any more. Their lives are structured so they consistently work towards their goals. They love what they do, and don't let their contribution be determined by their feelings or other desires. Absolutely, it's important to have a balanced life, to be fit and healthy, to have a decent income, to have great relationships with people, to have an awareness of oneself and one's world and to look to grow each day. But the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing, whatever that is for each person. |

How often do I produce?
Let's see - full-time job (~50 hrs/wk), wife, and 1-yo son. You do the math. ;)
Surprisingly, I typically find several hours each evening to at least stare at my computer and synthesizers. Like everybody else, some days I'm productive, others days not so much. It typically takes me about a month or two to finish a song, but that's primarily because most of my songs feature vocalists, so our schedules really determine how quickly we can finish a song. If I'm making an instrumental track on my own, it can take anywhere from about a week to several months. |

| if i was effective i could probably get a few hours or more each day but i waste my time fixing on my computer, cleaning up HDs, making backup-procedures, all kinds of , and posting here instead. i waste alot of time looking for cool gear and buying/selling stuff i dont need, read articles +++. just kinda learning alot. also i have some work to do in my apartment to fix the achoustics, once thats ok things will change i promisse :) . also there are some work with my small mp3-label but like email and uploading tracks, making website etc but not much tho. mostly nice work. but i should def use more time making music. im a bit tired of my current sequencer also so im trying to learn something pluss learning my hardware better. then i have work, friends, gf and to follow up too, so im mostl of the time suffering from stomach-problems and sour throat due to stress. and its just getting worse as im getting older, the day dont have enough hours anymore. |

Right now, it's about the average that I post here... sadly...
40-50 hour, full-time job
Full time college for IT/computer programming
1 fiance' who currently lives 1.5 hours away
I, like cryophonik, have more than a fair share of lifestyle burdens. I have produced on track in the last...
[drum roll] /* Or should I say, epic-snare roll */
...
...
...
One track in the last six months
[/drum roll]
UMNnnph -s- UMNnnph -s- UMNnnph -s- UMNnnph -s-
But it's all good. I'm obviously not called to be a major music producer by any means, but I carry burdens to better myself and society... it's not all about me, anyways.
Maybe one day I will have this college stuff done and suddenly find myself with more time than I know what to do with. |

I used to do it every day. But now I do it once or twice every week. I don't know what's happening to me.
I'm not planning to become serious or anything, but maybe it would be nice.. I don't know. |
