yeah, now we got CGI, special effects...which is allright
but I just saw the original "Willie Wonka and Chocolate Factory" starring Gene Wilde..
Then right after, "Singing in the Rain" with Gene Kelly..
Yup, I know: gaaay bro!
But just stop for 5 minutes when you come across some like this,
while browsing thru channels

| Look through any thread regarding recent movies (aside from The Dark Knight and the one I just made about 'He Was a Quiet Man'), and you'll get a little bit of an idea regarding just how much I hate present-day Hollywood. |

I watched He Was a Quiet Man. Was pretty good. I cant stand people who act like that though. Was having a hard time watching because of that. |

The only recent movie, ( and when I say recent, I mean in few years-wise) that I saw, and moved me
with the twist and no help of any "new" hollywood bull.. was none than:
"The Others"
That was a great production, absolutely |

CGI killed the sci fi genre IMO. Back in the days, they couldn't just substitute a plot with 2 hours of flashy special FX, so when they did action scenes, they put more effort into them, made them count more, and had better plots surrounding them. That's a pretty sad thing too, because CGI should enhance story telling by allowing film producers to explore aspects of cinematography that were previousely uncharted because of the limitations of traditional filming. It should be a tool, not the whole ing basis of a film.
At least nowadays we're slowly starting to see some more intelligent use of the technology. I'm thinking of recent films like Cloverfield, which had fantastic CGI, but never overused it - it was only there when it was needed. |

You'll get no argument from me. Hollywood has churned out more than its fair share of garbage this year. They usually hold back anything of worth for the Fall, so it will be fresh on the minds of the Oscar voters.
So much time and money is dedicated to CGI that there is very little room for character development or acting. Don't get me started on this Hero fad. |

| Everytime I see a new movie trailer in the works at work ( yes I work in the music department but I venture down to the theatrical floors) I ask my self, "Self!? I wonder if Jake has seen this, and what he thinks" lol |

If you watch how they made cloverfield, you'd be surprised just how much of the movie is actually cgi. But yeah you still have a point, they are just so subtle you don't see them - which is how it should be. |
