Awesome!!:eyes: Always looking for a reason to travel someplace new, and even moreso major events to plan overseas trips around and World Cup is as good as any :) . Europe is an easy trip and already a popular vacation destination whereas it's not too often the average person ever really has a reason to go visit South Africa. Sounds worth it to me. Plus who knows, maybe there'll be some solid acts spinning down there :p |

FLIGHTS:
the earliest any airline will book is about 11 months prior to the date of departure. It's about a 20 hour or so flight to Johannesburg. and will cost somewhere around $3000 round trip. from what i've found on major airlines at least.
there it is... I'm so freaking serious about going. |
Dude, that is awesome :) I would looove to go, but $3000 JUST for the flight? :nervous: :eyes: jesus a whole vaca should cost that much!!!

Yeah, $3k is definitely pretty steep just for the flight. I've been considering an Asia trip for the end of the year and a multi-city round trip from NY to Taiwan/Hong Kong to The Philippines, to Tokyo, and back to NY is still only around $2.5k. I'm not a big fan of flying out thousands of miles and only hitting up one place. It costs about the same to go to South Africa as it does to set up a multi-city round trip from NYC to Morocco, to Cairo, to Dubai (another trip I'd really like to take!):eyes: .
Still, I don't think I'd be motivated to plan a trip to South Africa anytime soon if not for an event like this so I'll definitely be keeping it in mind around this time next year. |

im just realizing that the 3K airline tickets I check were for flight reservations 2 weeks in advance...
1 year in advance reservations would be $1700, so that cuts that price a lot. my b |

um... i dont want to start a race argument here or anything. but haven't MOST nations had some sort of racist policy at some point? the USA is still SUPER racist when it comes to almost every creed or religion. there is someone hating. I mean... is the rest of the world supposed to automatically forgive our government because we haven't had Jim Crow laws since the 60's???
there is neo colonialism going on throughout the world, and its fostered by almost every industrialized nation there is...
you should be more pissed about china getting the olympics |

I agree with you almost totally. I am pissed China got the games but We was talking about the World Cup. I aint being nasty towards you, it's just that I feel strongly about the way SA has treated black people for decades.

i know i know... this is the kind of topic i could get balls deep in. i didnt think you were being nasty in the first place and i definitely wasnt taking it personal.
i agree that nations with recent histories of human rights violations should not be rewarded through the prominence of hosting global events.
but, i just accept life on life's terms and try and make an impact where i can.
plus, dont forget that SA hated hard on Indian's too, which I am (my dad's from India). they called us coolies. But how long does the world wait to forgive but never forget?
I don't hold a grudge against England, even though nearly all of the crown jewels were originally stolen from India... :D
ok, enough outta me. Although id love to read your response, steve. you seem like a well informed individual that could actually have an intelligent discussion on this topic. and hey, it is the WORLD cup thread. so lets discuss the world. . we have 2 years to plan the trip. something has to keep this thread going |
