Sourcing vocal "instruments"

OK, so since we were on the subject of vocals in another thread, it got me to thinking about something. You hear a lot of what I can only term as "vocal instruments" or "vocal pads" in a lot of released tracks by the "pros". You know, the various "oohhs" and "aahhs" and what not.

I was always wondering where these guys come up with these samples.

I figured that some of the larger producers are probably taking bits from vocal tracks they have recorded for previous songs (think A&B - Air for Life) and I have heard several samples that seemed like they were ripped from "pr0n", but it seems like a lot of the "not quite as big" producers are coming up with these samples from other sources.

Like listen to Internet Hugs from Espen & Elusive:

There are several samples in there, both singing and this reverbed talking piece.

Where the hell do they come up with that stuff? Are they just that resourceful?

I usually record my singing, then water it with some fxs, takes time tho...

One important piece of kit that is often forgotten: a girlfriend who is good at putting on accents and is prepared to say stupid stuff into a microphone. Seriously.

You could always use a formant filter or similar to produce vowel sounds?

This is very synthetic sounding, but I guess if done right it'd sound ok. Samples are prob the way to go though

Here are a few things i found on google:
