Awesome, I'm looking forward to this. I seriously enjoyed one of his energetic sets last year at Fever. I miss Fever. :(
Does he start spinning at midnight, or will this start at 2-3? What type of music does Dreamz typically play earlier in the night? I've only been there once for the afterhours party.

If it's the usual, they'll play a variety of "dance" music in the front room at the beginning of the night, and hip hop in the main room. They used to switch right at two, but the last two times we went they didn't switch the main room until 3 or after.

Yep. The front room usually has a few DJ's playing some hard-hitting, more russian-style dance music.
Until a couple weeks ago, I went on at 2 but they started pushing it back to about 2:30. It stinks for those who came out primarily to hear house music, but to their credit, it has made our transition better and more people have been staying later. In fact, the week before last, we had more people there during afterhours than during hip-pop time.

See, here is the issue... I'm a cheapass, and my boyfriend and I have a sticker on the back of our ID's that gets us in free wherever Mike and Allen (or VIPNightlife) end up, but usually BEFORE midnight. So we get there at 12 and start doing what we have to do to tolerate hip hop... DRINK.
... by the time 230-3 rolls around, we're all so in' trashed we wouldn't care if my Grandma started spinning, we'd have the same reaction =P So, in the end, I still don't benefit. LOL.
Most of the times I've been there, it's usually just me, Bong, Mitsue, and Nichole dancing to the electronic music in the main area. Which is fine, because then we can act like retards and nobody can care

He doesn't even go on until 3?:eyes: Man, I just don't understand the whole night life thing I guess. haha. I would check this out, but I'm really going to have to watch my money.

Last night was one of the epicest nights EVER!!! Donald's performance was undoubtedly the single best DJ set I have ever heard in Atlanta. On top of that, he is an uber-friendly, humble, really down-to-earth guy. I have seen a lot of DJ's bring unique styles, but this guy was the Jimi Hendrix of turntables last night...but I'll get to that in a minute. Although I killed quite a few brain cells last night, here is the awesomeness that I remember:
My buddy, Jay, picked up Donald at the airport. When they got in the car, Jay took it upon himself to throw in a CD that had a few bootleg remixes that had put together in the last year or so. Mind you, I had never shared these tracks with anyone except family and close friends, but when I met up with Jay and Donald, the first thing Donald said to me is that wanted a copy of one of those tracks. To say that I was surprised that he not only heard but liked my tracks is an understatement. Never in a million years would I have expected that, but I give that a 10 on the badassness scale.
Of course, we were bound to run into a hitch somewhere. This time it happened to be the sound technicians completely dropping the ball. Donald's technical rider called for a DJM-800 and these guys failed to acquire one in time. Fortunately, I have one (big ups on the rental fee, by the way ;) ) but still had a problem to face -- how to switch out mixers without completely losing the crowd with a couple minutes of dead air. You see, by the time we found out about the mixer situation, the hip-hop part of the night was already underway; plus, I'll be damned if I'm going to let a hip-hop DJ touch my mixer - it deserves better than that. With some quality teamwork, we actually pulled this off fairly well. Ceasar (one of the promoters) did some impromptu MC-ing while we made the switch and were up and running within 20 seconds. Phew.
So, back to the Jimi Hendrix reference. This guy pulled off some stuff that I have never seen before. For starters, he was mixing and scratching behind his back for a good while. But, if you think that's something, you should have seen when he grabbed the cross-fader with his teeth and went to town on that thing by shaking his head like he was being electrocuted but in perfect rhythm with the beat. (Which reminds me, I should probably wipe that thing down.) This guy can move faster than should be humanly possible. Unfortunately, my camera is a piece of crap, so most of the videos I wanted did not come out. But check out this one where you can make out a little:
Keep in mind, this was his second performance of the day. He started off performing with Armin in Miami before hopping on a plane to go straight into an afterhours set. I have no idea where this guy's energy comes from.
What really made my night was being able to throw in a few tracks with Donald at the end of his set. He wrapped up shortly after 5:00 and had to be absolutely exhausted.
And there's a photo of me looking like an idiot. (Oh well.) Hopefully the photographer will upload some better ones later so I can post them and we'll pretend like this one never happened.
I drove him and one of the promoters home afterward and I have to give the guy props for being so humble and friendly. My mixer now bears his autograph...to match his teeth marks. From what we were talking about and how well things went, this might become a quarterly thing or at least semi-annual. :X

ing sick sick sick sick sick! Wish I could've been there! Mad props for the mixer switch and glad he liked your tracks! Hope to catch the next one. :D

That scratching sounded horrible.... but i must say donald is sick!

I missed this due to stupid reasons. Drove all the way out there and there was a mix up concerning guestlists, where Bong's friend Jay (likely the same person) didn't relay something about not being able to get in on HIS list until after 1AM. Drunk boyfriend refuses to pay, but doesn't realize I will have to pay later. Ends in a fight and neither of us make it back.
