DJ Mookie (SWARM/SYD) just announced!!!!

JILL OF ALL TRADES
DJ/producer - Designer - co/Promoter of SWARM
(legendary underground techno parties here in Sydney),
Artist and last but certainly not least, MOTHER

Melissa has been she has been involved in the production and promotion of techno events for over 12 years. At the beginning of 2006 she moved from 'behind the scenes' to behind the decks. The delay in starting her dj career, has given her a unique perspective in comparision to her peers. She sees djing/producing as another medium to express her creativity.

Since first promoting techno parties with her partner in crime Vic, she has always been the driving force behind the creative side of party production, responsible for giving SWARM it's unique and very successful branding. She studied visual arts at university and is self taught in Graphic design. Melissa also studied Fashion at TAFE.

Further pursuing her dream, Melissa opened a store (MOXVOX) in 2000.She designed and made all the garments herself. In 2004 after the birth of their son, Melissa and Vic decided to close the store temporarily, so that their son could be enjoyed as much as possible. There are plans to reopen another store when the young one goes to school. Presently she is working on jewellery, accessories and one-off designed garments

Although, originally favouring behind the scenes rather than the spotlight, she has now taken to the decks with the same passion and creative energy and gusto.

In her short time behind the decks she has already gained a dedicated following and has shown that she is 100%committed to honing her skills as a dj. So far she has played in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide along side big names such as Speedy J, Ignition Technician, Chris Liberator and D.A.V.E the Drummer, Paul Glazby, Kid Kenobi, MC Shureshock, Pendulum, Dj Devious.

She has an outstanding ability to combine unexpected sounds in her signature style and work them to create a seamless and fresh mix. Her sound could be described as funky, quirky, glitchy and hypnotic, bleepy loop based techno. Always looking for a fresh sound to get the dancefloor moving, she often mixes techno with booty, minimal, electro and tech-house. Whatever the style she always has her ear pricked for that special something in a track.

Production is also another outlet she has recently turned her skills and talent towards. Incorporating custom loops and samples within her dj sets, especially when part of The HoneyMakers (a hybrid turntable/live sequencing project). She has also completed a various studio track projects set for release via SWARM Digital.

The name Mookie comes from her son and his word for music when he was 2 years old and yes of course Techy Mookie is his favourite.
