DENHAM JAY // Prog, tech, trance, psy...

Passionate about dance music for the last 15 years, Denham decided that it was time to give up being a punter by trying life on the other side of the decks as a DJ.

At the ripe old age of 35, becoming a DJ at one point was only a dream.

Persistence and a firm belief in himself saw Denham score his first opportunity in March 2007 playing at Interview vs Push alongside Ben Evans. From that point his hunger for playing further gigs grew and he went on to have a stellar first year.

Throughout 2007, Denham learnt to develop his own style playing anything from trance, tech-trance and most recently progressive and psy-trance. In most recent times progressive psy is mostly what he concentrates on.

So far it's been an incredible ride for him and 2008 should see him progress and further develop his talent.

In the short time he's been playing he has supported international acts such as Mark Sherry, John 00 Fleming, Perfect Stranger, Sun Control Species, Kuffdam, Chwen, Marcel Woods, Tenisia, Scott Project, Wippenberg, Space Tribe, Tyuoshi Suzuki, S.U.N Project and Dave The Drummer.

Already a regular guest at many Interview events including Elements Earth, Water and Tranceformers, Denham has also played at Pharmacy, Earthcore, 3D, 140, Substance, Madasss and JOY FM in his first year.

As for Denham's intensions this year, he wishes is to change it up by injecting new genres into his sets while still keeping the element of trance as a 'sound' His style is always moving forward and skill always developing so expect big things from Denham this year.

Watch out for Denham Jay, he's CA-RAZEY!

think of it this way:

good mood: you come to partay and drown your liver in celebratory goodness.

bad mood: you come to turn that frown upside down with techtrance and mates company.

:D

every which way you turn, you win.

dammit, i shoulda been a lawyer. a trance playing lawyer.

JAMES BROOKE // Prog, tech, trance, drum & bass...

James Brooke’s interest in dance music was spiked at the mere age of 12. Previously immersed in more alternative sounds, his older sister exposed him to a different style of music. BT ‘Movement in Still Life”, Prodigy “Fat of the Land”, and Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto were on constant rotation at home. Once hearing this, James was hooked.

At age 16 he sold his bass guitar, left the band he was involved in and went out and purchased some decks and a mixer and taught himself how to mix.

Inspired by local gun’s Phil K and Nubreed, James initial genre of choice was breaks. However, feeling the urge to take his tastes and sets further, he started exploring many other genres and styles. He discovered he loved them all. Not content to pigeonhole himself into one box, James is now a very versatile DJ. Progressive, trance, psy and techno are mixed seamlessly together, making sure even the most fickle crowds are kept entertained and rocking.

The last two years have seen James arrival into the Melbourne dance scene. Rocking many of Melbourne’s top nightclubs such as Room680, Brown Alley, Circus, Viper Room, Chasers, 3D and many more. He has supported international DJ’s Tiesto, Christopher Lawrence, Tenishia, Kuffdam and Chewn. He has appeared at Earthcore, Tickled Pink, Neon Electrik and Mapleheads. A regular at Interview, Stargarden and Kiss FM and also a favourite on Joy FM’s weekly Saturday night dance show “Vinylizm”. This young talent is really beginning to establish himself as one of the local scene’s gems.

James is without a doubt a crowd pleaser, intuitively knowing and reading the crowd is his specialty. He always seems to know what tracks to play that will keep the dance floor entertained. Smiling faces, dancing feet and head’s bumping, no chin strokers to be seen.

At the start of 2008 James started his own record label called 405 Recordings. It has already gained the support of many local and international dj’s, with names on the label such as, Bart Claessen, Bas & Ram, Maarten De Jong, Roy Gates, as well as local guns, Dave Stroud, Wavemotion and Marsh. Keep a close eye on this label as it is destined to do great things, the coming months should see a plethora of new talent added to the label.

Milk! (Now with added James Brooke)
