He peaked too soon I'm afraid. He was already in top form during the Dauphiné, so I'm afraid he'll pay the price for that in the last - and decisive - week of the Tour.

But he's surely a contender for today's stage and the first yellow jersey. :)

it is!!!

Quite an impressive acceleration he showed, easily countering Kirchen and withstanding Gilbert, two riders that are specialised in this kind of finishes as well. I'm interested to see if he can do the same thing tomorrow, on a similar finish. :)

I'm looking for Menchov or Evans to take it this year. Anyone else and they would need to do something special (to justify/deserve it) in my eyes. Evans really deserved to win last year - - but thanks to Dertie Contador it was over.

Hopefully history wont repeat itself. What happened to Rasmussen last year was humiliating.

And a real shame that Boogerd is no longer competing!

My thoughts exactly. Well, Sastre maybe, but his timetrialling will be his one fatal flaw once again.

valverde will not hold that yellow jersey to paris.
Wait till the mountains show up, like the Massif Central and the Pyrenees. I think valverde will loose some places then and Evans, Kirchen and Menchov will take the highest places then. Maybe Sastre also.

I expect a high rank for Zubeldia as well this year. He's been climbing better than ever this year, he's amazingly constant (will never lose 5 minutes in a mountain stage due to a bad day), and the smaller amount of timetrial kilometres is also in his advantage. :)

Haimar Zubeldía? I hope see the best Carlos Sastre.

Jasperovitsj
He'll need his best legs if he wants to take on Evans, Menchov and Valverde :D

Nice showing by the 2 American teams so far, with one team (Columbia) holding the yellow and white jerseys, and the other (Garmin-Chipotle) leading the team classification.
