Does anyone know for sure if playing burned CDs will get you busted if you are playing for free? I love to play vinyl, but some songs i cant get on vinyl and dont have the time to wait for them to ship.

Does anyone know for sure, and if its documented somewhere?

Everything is legal until you get caught.

So don't get caught.

You should probably be able to play whatever you want. Just don't record it and sell it.
Trancealot
lets just be hypothetical

Downloading a song on to your computer is legal with the concent of the producer. I did not mention the company that produces the producers songs. Ex...Dj Tiesto said I love for people to hear my music on the interent. Souunds great but then Trancepagina website(2001) had to take off BLACKHOLE Mp3s and explecitally said we will get in major trouble if we deal anymmore with those type of mp3s to allow for free download.

Then comes full-albums....Why go to the store to spend 15-20$ for a cd with 4 good songs on it when you can get it for free? Ok the reason why is to pay for alot of crap other than the producer. Like a toll booth on the highway. Money is not for people but to rebuild the city. If you stop totally paying for cd's then more sigles will come out and ruin the music industry. BUTTTT that won't happen because music sales are up but that does not mean all music that gets on the internet says" download this album because its free here"Thats why its illegal.

Then comes the rippers themselves. I love them and all. But do they get paid to spend 300+$ alone for their TT's to rip them. Their vynils that allow any person who uses a computer to be a DJ. All you people love to say" oh be a DJ with Turntables and not that computer generated mix maker" So if everyone or anyone can play that so called"newest song out there" by any means (cd-r/mp3)so be it.

Ripping from the radio even sounds wierd because I used to come home after school and hit that record button for my mix tapes. Now its 5 second listen per song untill I briefly hear the next hundreds of times. Its legal rip from live sets I would say but thats why you here people talking in the BG. Without that then that would be taking advantage of a single off the radio which would never happen. You here atleast one effect not in the song during its plying.

To sum all this crap up. Its illegal to say it. But this is how its illegal. You sell the tracks you download. You make profit off it then that means you are making money off someone elses property and thats stealing, copywritten stuff. Having the song on your comp is just hatred by the companys that make the song. Clips are cool but having whole songs any seller would hate to see to have without you the buyer buying it. Sales go down but that don't mean the buyer sales go up.

Don't run out and start a black market cd-r selling company off all these mp3's thats all because thats how you see people who run the wearhouse size deals get caught. Watch "Scarface" and you'll see. Sell one cd to kid a and make few $$ is cool. Sell few thousand for alot of $$$ and your screwed.

cops don't give a about dollars. they care about the big bust...
and those so called internet dirtbags deciding to checkup on mp3 downloading sites. Like the FCC for the internet instead of the radio.

those are my words. peace

Just try to get as much vinyl as possible (what you need), and it doesn't matter if you will play 1-2 promos on CDs, AS LONG AS you don't spin mp3 only and stuff. I hate such DJs, I think THEY are ruining the scene.

i think deejays that have ruined the scene are the ones who do it just to be cool.

play whatever format you want. if someone tells you that it is cooler to play vinyl (or whatever), just tell them to shove their vinyl up their ass because you are deejaying for the love of music.

if a person is not actually paying for the majority of music they play and they make money from it, that is a different story.

(sorry, i know this has nothing to do with the original question).

well, if you wanna play from cds, make sure you are supporting the artists too, cuz if you dont, then that sucks for the artists, i personally buy vinyls, but if there is a song that i cant get on vinyl or something, ill just have to play it off my computer as an intro song or from a cdj, cuz come on, i dont have a 1000 dollars just lying around to go bid on ebay ridiculous prices for hard to find vinyl, or to just buy new vinyl everyday

Interesting thoughts Trancealot, but yea this is the most important bit - copy a few Cds, for your cousin, friend, whoeva, no one is going to even give it second thought - make ur living out of it, and u deserve whatever u get
Biohazard
trust me, mp3s on a club sound system suck ass ;)
Dmatrox
first: im playing for my grad

second: im playing bull music for people (pop/rap/alternative etc)

third: im not being paid, nor want to be paid.

forth: i dont wanna buy a bunch of bull music to play to people for a night, and not listen to those CD's becuase i don't like that music.

Biohazard: why would mp3s sound bad on a club system? :conf: If tracks are encoded on 192 kbps, and the people there can't tell the diff between a 96kbp, 128kpbs and 192, it doesn't matter to me. ;)

Flec
the reason is because 128 etc.. may sound OK-GOOD on your home computer or discman speakers but when u put those quality mp3s on a VERY good system u can tell the difference.... the 128-192 ( depending on encoder) will sound much worse then a real vinyl or cdda copy

if you are going to be playing mp3 copys of tracks on a top notch system i recomend notghing lower then 256 CBR or --aps to --ape

use the LAME encoder, not the gay xing, blade etc.. encoders

and may i suggest using http://www.exactaudiocopy.de to rip (windows)? if calibrated properly, it ensures error-free ripping. not to say that you will never get errors but if there *is* a chance of an error in the rip, EAC will tell you so you can fix it and save yourself the embarassment of distributing mp3s with loud clicks in them : ).

[oops, second time in a few days that i've plugged EAC ... no, i'm not associated with them and it is basically freeware anyways]
