How do you play midi data in FL in an external synth?

I'm trying to use midi in the piano roll to play in my Novation Xiosynth so I can use my patches.
I know the synth does it and FL does too but I can't figure it out. If anyone with FL knows how please let me know!

BTW about the synth (just came today).
Its ing AWESOME.
I think it owns V-Station, and the bass is my favorite.
Best part is I've been using a mouse for 4 years to adjust parameters so its a million times quicker to have 2 hands and real knobs to turn. The thing rocks. Would def recommend for anyone interested. It is my first synth so I also can't compare to any other hardware. Love it regardless. |

Look in the FL's midi output options. You should have your synth listed there. Select it and assign a port number to it. Now assign the same port to the Midi out plugin. That should get the synth playing the notes. But that will only play the synth. It still won't register in the FL's mixer. For that you need to select a mixer channel and select your car's input (or whatever your synth's playing on) in the "IN" menu.

I think I was trying something like that lol but at least now I have a guidline to follow. Thanks & will let you know if it worked.
The Virus was always #1 on my list btw, just don't have the funds for it yet.. one day though we will be together. =] |

Its still not working. The book says Novation will be set on 16 by default. So I open the patch, went in to the output, selected it, put it on port 16 and now I'm getting this error.
I try typing notes into the piano roll (for the kick) and I'm not even sure how that piano roll will know to send that midi data to the synth.
Cause if I put midi data in the hihat and clap technically the synth would play all if thats the way it worked.
This is soo confusing ahhh! Help me!!!!! |

Try inserting a Midi out plugin?
It's right there in your fruity VSTi list..
Then follow the previous post. If it doesn't work change the midi channel (probably to 16) in the midi out plugin. Port number doesn't matter as long as they're the same for the midi out plugin and the synth.
EDIT: Also make sure the enable midi output is enabled in the options drop down menu. |

ahaaa!! YESSS!!! You rock.
NO WHERE in FL's manual under midi settings, advanced midi settings, and controller settings OR the novation manual did it say a single g/damn thing about the midi out vsti.
I've seen it before in the list but it never even passed my mind. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Now I'll be up all night playing lol. |

Enjoy ;)
Also keep in mind that you can't export the track as usual using a hardware syth. Only live export works, and since FL doesn't have that feature (and we all wonder why), you'll have to use the edison wave editor on that channel (in the effect list) to record the riff and import it back into fruity as a wave file for the final rendering. |

This is absurd how quick I'm layering sounds and how nice they're sounding.
I'm recording directly to the playlist sequencer instead of using edison. Just hit record, it stops than pops right up in the sequencer when you stop record.
I did a bass line playing with overdrive and filters, than added an arp over it, for some reason call me crazy, being able to record with your fingers on the knobs rather than drawing in automations is sooo much better.
Plus I'm getting a weird affect where it seems like the lower bass frequencies from the Novation aren't interfering with the kick at all.
I would have to show you to prove it but everything I'm recording and combining doesn't seem to be fighting for space.
I am so happy I decided to get this little thing. Thanks again! |

Once I get past the learning curve I'll be doing much more but this is a simple bass/kick/arp with no fx except for Novations ones.
I think the sync is off a bit but its clicked on. Once I program a few decent patches this thing will sound real nice.
