| the best thing is to leave a track for a few months then put it on ure ipod or something so your getting a fresh listen to it. on that first listen alot of stuff surpises ypou rather than you going that hi-hat is to high |

Yeah, I think you really have to get into your own stuff to have any chance of anyone else liking it. Otherwise someone else may really love it and you'll be like "really? nah, let's listen to some Tiesto instead, his songs are much better".
Of course, it does take a while to get to the stage where you're really happy with what you create.
I remember years ago when I was in a heavy band (I played guitar and wrote the songs), I was in a car with the other guys in the band, driving to a rave or something, just chatting about stuff, had this music playing in the background. I was just grooving to it, not really concentrating on it, just engrossed in the conversation. Then the guitar riff changes and I'm like "damn, this music is awesome". I keep listening while we're talking and finally say "this music is awesome, who is this?" and the other three guys are like "are you serious?" And I'm all mystified at their reaction, I just say "yeah, why, who is it?" And I think the vocalist just said "It's us, man". It just felt really cool to have a glimpse of one of our songs the way someone who's never heard it may hear it.
It's only happened one time, not with any of my dance music yet...but I do enjoy listening to my songs... |

ONE of my tracks, yes. A DnB remix I did last summer, and I don't even listen to DnB that much at all. I feel it's my best job thusfar. |

I get goosebumps listening to some of the vocalists that have sung on my tracks. I think I'm always more impressed by what others do than what I do. |

Only time I really get pleasure from one of my tracks is the first time I render it on CD and hear it in my car.
Everytime after that its nothing but analyzing and critiquing what could be better.
Matter a fact, I don't really enjoy most music now & days lol.
Tracks that I use to love from Ferry when I listen to now I analyze too much to really enjoy. Guess its like a sickness of some sort. |
