I know there is a UK forum but no one uses it! :p
So anyway what is the night life like in these? I've got the choice of either, so I wanna know what they are like for a night out.
I've been out in Derby (and won a bottle of champagne by owning a spinning cow thing in front of senior managers from work lol) and it seemed okish but a bit heartless kinda.
But never in Bristol. I keep flipping between the two so I dunno. COR help please, you're good with these life changing decisions! |

derby is mostly tacky. Heartless is pretty true, nottingham has better lineups usually. Plus Az has been in derby for a few years now which doesn't help :p Eating out there is good, but the clubs as such are mostly . Hospital is within walking distance to most though which is handy if you get glassed :p
Bristol, I've never been to, but i'd say it's a lot bigger and probably has more going on for it. |

| I went to Slinky in Bristol when it still exited there. Really liked the city and its quite a lively place to be. |

bristol? or derby?
are you really asking this question? :stongue:
speaking from someone who has lived and gone to university in derby for the past 3 years, my suggestion is bristol. Big time. |

with bristol it depends what you want in terms of a night. a few small clubs in the region of 200-250 capacity. usually 1 to 5 good bookings per weekend, but you should use www.dontstayin.com to check the bristol calender. if the nights not on there, it aint happening.
there are a few bigger clubs (500-800) who hold regular d+B, psy and hard/hardcore nights, and one commercial club called 'syndicate' which has a big booking usually once a month. like PVD, armin and the usual big names.
the key is to plan in advance for a smaller club visit. in particular, dojo lounge and timbuk2 have some good events. dojo for example is a 200 capacity place, with small dancefloor, but they have had people like robert babicz live, slam, silicon soul, carl craig etc. timbuk2 is bigger at 350 capacity, and has bookings like bodzin, leger, and pretty much every well known name + often some less known gems.
warehouse is another good venue on occasions, with good bookings. also, 'the thekla' is a boat club, with nice events going on.
trance scene is underground and not strong in bristol, and is mainly powered along by the harder fans. d+b, dubstep and techno are the order of the day. |
