This is where Mauro is in 2008 and as ever it’s on the cutting edge of electronic wizardry fused with pulsating, infectious, gyrating, badass grooves.
Mauro’s career in Electronic dance music spans two decades. He is a DJ, producer, creator of Meganite and all round workaholic. He has produced under more names than are possible to remember. A short summary of his career takes up pages but a little insight into where Mauro has been over the last decade is an interesting story…
…1998 saw him make his bid for UK stardom, with the release of the inescapable Gatecrasher anthem ‘Lizard’ a record that, for many, summed up the hegemony of the emerging trance sound. The track ended up being a Top 30 hit and was followed by two further instalments in the reptilian trilogy, namely ‘Iguana’ and ‘Komodo’. Komodo notched Picotto another chart hit, entering at Number 11, as well as a performance on Top of the Pops. Mauro was the first DJ to ever play live on the show.
Further top tens followed, including ‘I Feel Love’, under the moniker CRW and Communication, recorded alongside his friend and fellow countryman Mario Piu. The track sampled a mobile phone ring tone and became an omnipresent summer anthem. Furthermore it was Picotto’s remix which propelled York’s Balearic trancer ‘On The Beach’ to Number 1 when it was selected by the record company to be used as the radio edit.
Two artist albums, ‘The Double Album’ and ‘The Others’, came next, in 2000 and 2002 respectively, as well as remixes and productions for the likes Freddie Mercury, Jimmy Sommerville, Pet Shop Boys and U2. Unfortunately it didn’t take long for other producers to start to cash in on the Picotto sound and soon everybody was apeing his tough, uncompromising style. Having paid his dues, and notching up a string of hits, it was time for Picotto’s metamorphosis from trance star to techno superhero to begin…
When Picotto had found his techno sound he decided to launch Meganite, his baby, at WMC 2002. Now in its 5th year of residency at the worlds biggest club, Privilege in Ibiza, and it’s still going from strength to strength.
Mauro’s latest album offering is one you are not going to forget. This one is going to know the critics sideways…

…mixed live by Mauro showcases those sounds he has developed, the tracks that all contain the elements that fulfill Mauro’s needs for groove, his need for bass and his need for something different that lifts spirits and vibrates bones. All tracks are exclusive to Mauro’s respected Alchemy label.
If you’ve been to a Meganite this CD will bring back the vibe, if you’ve never had a chance to go it will transport you there and allow you to live the experience with anthems such as the escalating and energy fuelled, Church Of Nonsense, Rizlard and Shark.
CD2, Mauro Picotto Past & Present - 10 years of Classics and Remixes…
…showcases some of Mauro’s biggest tracks to date, with remixes and edits by Mauro, his team of likeminded studio manipulators and others. Including the original mix of Iguana and a brand new remix of Lizard for 2008, two of the tracks which helped establish Mauro’s early career. Building through Fonzerelli’s remix of last year’s club smash Evribadi and Smith & Selway’s remix of Maybe, Maybe Not. As well as showcasing some of Mauro’s killer new tunes including the beautifully uplifting, The Kite and Contaminato.
