and don't you think todays tards for kids are spoiled? lol |
No. Given what's available to them, they still have the same amount of stuff that both myself and my parents had. Society as a whole is spoiled, but the kids are no more spoiled than they were back then.
Just my opinion. |

Perhaps I should phrase it better...
Given what's available to them, they still have the same amount of stuff that children had during my generation and during my parents generation.
Or maybe there's no easy way to phrase it. Regardless, I don't think they're spoiled. I guess just pay attention to my last sentence in that post.
Edit: And Ned, you mentioned different neighborhoods and how yours was poor. How do you think other neighborhoods looked back then? I'm sure a lot of them were just as "spoiled" as the neighborhoods you see now in comparison to back then. |

my parents were both poor. and still are. they didn't have growing up. and neither did i. well, i take that back, i might have had more, but i knew the value of a dollar. i didn't say, "I ING WANT" and i got something.
it was, "hey, this costs $50, do you want dinner for the next few nights, or that video game?" kind of lifestyle growing up. |

And that's good. I'm not knocking your lifestyle and your attitude towards money is a damn fine thing to have.
What I'm saying is that you shouldn't assume that just because you may have been poor doesn't mean that most other families were. The ratio of lower-income to higher-income between now and then seem to be about the same. I guarantee that, maybe not in your neighborhood, there were plenty of children back then who said, "I ING WANT!" and got their way.
Look at the grand scheme of things here, not just what you had. |

I guess the level of "being spoiled" is probably at MAX every generation since the beginning of the modern family, simply because parents tend to baby their children always.
The sheer amount of material objects, however, is being processed much quicker than in previous generations. This is due to the availability and ease. Not to mention the unbelievable leaps and bounds in the field of communication.
