SSL Duende & sidechain

I work in Cubase 4 and have a SSL Duende PCIe together with a MOTU 828 MK3. both have DSP accelerated compression and EQ with both their own character.

The Duende even has "EQ sidechaining" on the channelstrip which enables you to select a certain frequency to influence your compression respons. So far so good.

The Steinberg VST processor has a very simple send and receive SC button which allows to to either send or recieve a sidechain trigger with it. But this compressor is not accelerated and has a totally different character.

Is there a way to tracksidechain with the Duende rather than EQ sidechain. Yes i want to work on the infamous kick/bassline, but i want to do it HW accelerated. Any routing suggestions?
Ofcourse i can always simulate by drawing Midi Volume curves on beat 1,5,9 and 13 of the bassline, but that's like cheating :haha:

just curious if i miss any nifty routing options to sidechain using compressors without a sidechain option

I don't think you can use sidechain compression with Duende, just vst3 plugins or other 3rd party

I fancy a Duende myself, i thought they were emulations, but they're actually based on the C-Series consoles

yep, the sound is the real deal, i used to work with a Mackie LM32 and Novation Drumstation, Juno 106 JP8080, Korg Z1 and NordLead1 with a TL audio 5052 on the master bus. But sold it al a good few years back. You can imagine i was quite dissapointed when listering to my new DAW with only softsynths and no other outboard gear than my Lexicon MX200. The Duende was for me the thing that gave me back the analoque character and then some
:gsmile:

It sounds awesome and a mild Stereo bus compressor is now always on the main insert of my projects. It just shaves off the digital edge.

biggest advantage is that you will have immediate results with drums. You can take (nearly) any kit, EQ and compress i via the channel strip and it sounds phat. But then again, i've never worked with sample packs (or Nexus tyope romplers) since i don't like precompressed, pre EQ'ed ready to go sample packs, they sound too FL'ish for me.

Anyway, have been playing with drawing volume curves last night on a controller track and now have created 3 volume templates with different "attack and decay characteristics" (read width and steepness of the curve :D ) to be used on whatever i want to "sidechain" with the kick. Using this together with the EQ sidechain on the Duende channelstrip (on the frequency of the kickdrum, this emphazises the feel a bit more) i get the effect i want.
