| oh ok. well u still wont be seeing "man with no name" tracks in the top 20 charts now will u? (thats not a rhetorical question) i cant imagine that happening lol but epic trance and all that sorta stuff i think already has on many occasions (not necessarily everywhere though). |

I haven't read the rest of this post, so I'll through in my two cents and hope I'm not upsetting anyone.
In my view:
80s = Rock and Pop
90s = Pop and dance
Now = Rock and pop again
I don't think trance will be mainstream again until dance music in general has a resurgence, when that will be I don't know.
p.s. I'm not denying the 90s had Rock, it had some fantastic bands, but I don't think rock was really one of the major players. That's how i see it anyway. |

i think its stupid that u left out house in all three decades.....u should have atleast mentioned it in this decade
it is the leading electronic genre in the world along with trance, so its kind of important ;) |

i would think it it would be more like....
80s = Rock, pop, house
90s = Pop, all electronic music
Now = Rock, pop, r & b, house
or something like that |

Are you aware that dance music actually is a summary used for all styles of electronic music, so with dance music he means House and Trance etc? |

| omg like trance is sooooooo mainstream i dont even like listening to it its TOTALLy catering to people who have never even like...BEEN in a community of people. Its all about dance floor now and omg its sooooo progressive these days. Which is why I listen to a 5 hour loop of a weiner slapping against a butt these days. "Mainstream" is just a nice way of saying that somebody, somewhere, is exploiting the genre for money - that they have turned it into a business. There's nothing wrong with artists being compensated for their work, but when money and fame becomes more important than the quality of the music, the popularity of the thing has truly crippled it. I haven't bought trance in years, merely for the fact that the only DJs worth listening to are the ones on internet message boards just doing what they're doing, pumping out mixes because they love the music. mainstream, "the underground" (whatever the hell that even means anymore, the term is almost as abused as the word "art"), it should always come second place to the music, itself, and in trance's case, it should probably come second to the feeling you get - memories elicited, imagination stimulated, etc. Was trance ever really about the music to you? It is a simple organization of electronic vibrations - nothing more. There is a lot of interesting music out there - interesting to listen to for its depth, its progress, its actual production and technical mastery - the vast majority of trance is not one of those genres. It pretty much never has been, even when it was new, it was simple as hell and not particularly difficult to imitate, but kind of hard to actually imitate well - mostly because its aim is to capture an emotion and make people react to it.
In conclusion, trance kicked my dog. |
