The symptoms you described, the computer is already off, but for some reason the fans aren't turning off either due to a faulty mobo, or improperly seated fan connectors. |

alright everyone, so I ended up returning the mobo in hopes that it was a defect with that. I tried nearly everything possible:
-ran the mobo outside of the case to see if it was a grounding issue
-put in a new power supply to see if it was a defect with that
-checked every single bios setting/jumper settings
-reseated all the power cords and double checked the power button (on the case) connectors
and god knows what else...
my next question, which should be fairly easy: when i removed everything to send out the motherboard, i obviously had to remove the CPU. the CPU has all the thermal paste that came with it from the heatsink/fan. would it be okay when i get the new mobo to just install the CPU using the same thermal paste? or would i have to buy the cleaning solution and new paste to apply it as i am reinstalling it?
COR version: returned mobo. removed CPU which still has thermal paste. do i need to apply new thermal paste or can i just reuse what's already on it? |

No, you should really clean the paste off and reapply it. You don't need anything special..just rubbing alcohol. And you can buy a tube of arctic silver 5 for $5.99 here. Remember to use a PAPER THIN layer (I use a razorblade to spread it). Anything more defeats the purpose and can make your CPU run hotter.

Are you ing stupid? Hibernate turns everything off, but saves the contents of memory to the hd for resume at a later date or time. No matter which option you choose, it shuts everything off except in standby/sleep mode memory still has power as this is needed to keep the memory state.
ugh too many ing dumb people on these boards giving information about computers.
Zoso: if EVERYTHING is shutting off but the fans, that has nothing to do with being in standby/sleep mode. See above. |
Lol, bro u have some issues. Your ego clouds your brain and blocks u from logical thinking, judging from the majority of your posts. Relax and quit jumping into every thread spouting off u really are clueless about. Improperly seated fan connectors, lol. Yea mate that would still indicate that there is power at the connection point which has nothing to with the connector. |

I use cotton-buds personally.
If you can, try and find some Arctic Cooling MX-2 instead of the Arctic Silver 5.
I've used AS (3 and 5) for years, but MX-2 gives me slightly better results, is MUCH easier to apply, and is non-conductive, so won't fry anything should it get smeared places where it shouldn't :) |

Nah I don't. You just don't understand how ing stupid you are when you say things that are patently false. People spread so much misinformation with computers that it is perpetually a ed up scene. People like some of the ones that were in this thread saying "do this, do that, this could be it, that could be it" are the reason we have so many computers ed up. Don't get all butt hurt just because I called someone stupid for perpetually using bad information. |
