I NEED computer help!!!!!!

OK my computer is ed up.
My display settings are stuck on 640 x 480 and 16 colours. I dont know what the hell is wrong with is, i go into the settings and tell it to change back to 1024 x 768. The computer then restarts and its back to 640 x 480. Like none of my goddamn programs work because they have to be on a higher resolution to work.
Anyone know what i could do? |

you got the latest video card drivers for your video card? and are your moniter settings right(i dont know much about this) try emailing the tech support of your video card maker as they may know wots goign on

if the lastest drivers don't work, try using powerstrip.. here
it is a little complicated, but it does a lot of good.. |

| Yeh sounds like ya dun gots da video drivers installed properly. Make sure ya gots da right video drivers, make sure ya got da right path ta dem, uninstall any existing video drivers ya gots, an den reinstall dem. Drivers iz really a beeotch, let me tell ya! If dat don' werk, maybe ya should reformat yo' cruize an' reinstall yo' operating system. I do dis here sometimes when all else fails. w0rd! sheeiit! |

indeed the graphics card is not being used.
This means it is not installed properly.
Right click my computer
Properties>Device Manager
There will be a yellow question mark next to the device under "display adapters".
Right click the device and click update driver/reinstall. |

| Ive been using this computer for almost 3 years with the same video card so im pretty sure its installed properly. ill try updating the drivers. |

what windows version are you using, what graphics card?

Ok, when you goto the install new drivers and it searches for them, it only searches your hard drive and Microsoft's site. So 90% of the time it won't find anything. If you could tell us what kind of video card you have, I'm sure one of us will point you to the latest driver for it..
Just incase you dont know how to find out :rolleyes:, on the desktop right click - goto properties - then click the settings tab on top and you'll have something like this.
The part circled is my monitor + my video card..

I have a NVIDEA RIVA TNT graphics card. My bro is a computer tech and hes coming to visit tommorow, i think ill just let him deal with it. I am so brain dead when it comes to computers, i know how to download music, and play games. Thats about it.

well because you download and use your computer for fun stuff does not mean you ever wonder what your computer can do other than play music and watch movies on it. Some days I love to what you call in the computer business is tweak my registry. Thats just one thing. If you ever wonder just go look around your computer but always hit the X in the upper right hand corner of the box or cancel. When you master and I mean MASTER these kind of things you can mess around with your computer and then begin to fix your own errors. Even improve it. Tech support do things to your comp that you would dream of knowing. Ex..I should recall how DOS works because its very powerful tool in anyones computer that is so rarely used anymore. You can be just as good with some free time and a good eye and hand.
