Its so ironic that this is happening 2 blocks away from the Hall of Justice. Police Headquarters is right there and this much crime happens that close to it. |
Uhm,. I was just thinking the same thing.. in A.
Aren't central americans from central america? |

It's getting scary out there. People are getting desparate during desparate times. You getting mugged in SF, my buddy getting mugged in LA. Another one of my buddies car got broken in to last night. Not that this stuff doesn't happen often but I've been hearing about it happening to more of my friends lately. Just makes me nervous being out as much as I'm out. I think it's only gonna get worse. |
hmmm, that sucks, considering I walk around both downtown LA, SF and even downtown DC by myself to go to clubs, lol. |

Damn that really sucks! I can't tell you how many times I've parked in that same alley when going to 1015... at least no one got hurt.
In situations like that you really have no choice but to give them what they want, nothing I ever carry with me is worth risking my life over... in fact usually when I'm heading out to the club I only take a small amount of cash, 1 credit card and my ID... makes it easy to deal with if something were to happen.
That said I live in San Francisco and have had my car broken into twice first time they took the stereo and some jumper cables, second time I dunno why they broke in, there was nothin to take... the streets are usually covered in lots of broken glass which leads me to believe that my car wasn't the only one. Some people have resorted to putting signs in their car saying "IT'S UNLOCKED! Please don't break my window!"
So yeah, things are getting worse it seems, the police won't even take a report about a car break-in, told me to go online... our tax money hard at work :haha: this is what SF gets, our police chief can't even carry a firearm and our elected officials have been hard at work to prevent people from even owning guns in SF. I personally recommend a .45 handgun for home defense and a shotgun as a secondary should things get ugly.
BTW not trying to scare anyone, just want people to know SF isn't as "safe" as it may seem. Always pay attention to your surroundings, avoid alleys, etc etc. it sucks just hearing about crap like this on the news and its even worse hearing about it happening to local TAs :( |

You have it totally backwards. A 12 gauge is what you should use for home defense because of the spread that pretty much covers the entire hallway or doorway. You are more than likely going to miss with a handgun and that round is going to fly through 2 other homes.

1911's are always the way to go but if you want a polymer pistol I would say that the Smith and Wesson M&P series is the best at the moment. I love my M&P, it has never jammed or stovepiped and I fired 900 rounds in one day without cleaning it. You need to be comfortable with firearms before you handle one because it has no safety mechanism so when you pull the trigger it goes boom.

Too many Hollywood shoot'em up movies. The Desert Eagle is one of the worst handguns I have ever shot. It is way too heavy, it is too large to holster in any comfortable way and it is extremely expensive to shoot but it is accurate. The Desert Eagle also throws brass backwards directly at you. The brass cuts and burns your face which pretty much sours you from shooting it ever again. The last thing you need to worry about in a life or death situation is burning your face or blood running down your face because of your own brass. |
