I would beg to differ. Afterhours are not exactly raves, and hip hop has been part of afterhours for a long time now.
Mr Moss
I wonder if a hiphop only afterhours would have a good enough fanbase to survive.. probably so, if it had the right vibe to it

Hip Hop afterhours did exist! Level in Laval was hip hop and reggae! The place was always packed when I went.

or someone with good musical taste, i honestly think the afterhour "clubber" (in abscence of words) enjoys a different quality of music then the rest of the population, thus thinking its more then worth while to stay up all night to listen to that music, literally putting your body in a torment and force it to stay up...for that music, that sound. Putting it on that perspective...who's going to stay up to listen to fifty and friends while clubs are already playing that nonsense. I Can hear the prison guard screaming "OK lights out" in some of their tracks. 90% of what he says on the tracks, i dont understand crap,im not even sure its english. Plus the type of music attracts a type of crowd...Crap will attract crap (i.e. "undesired people"). Put some Tribe Called Quest on, Talib Kweli,Mos Def, Little Brother and others, probably a small crowd, but hey they wont be the ones bringing guns as bus passes/ID in the club or selling cocaine like it was cake powder.

You have a high opinion of the average afterhour clubber. I personally think the average afterhour clubber, high on his second E, doesnt give a about the music. The average afterhour clubber is more interested in the girl/guy ratio and wants to know how many girls he can touch and bother with his stories.

I think they do give a . When the music is not good for a period of time, you see the crowd leaving the dance floor and many bitching about the DJ....

Afterhours, i agree and disagree (based on when i use to go to aria/sona). I do remember on those nights when big trance dj's were in town, pure madness, meat market all the way, dudes drooling, heck i was drooling too, but managed to keep my hands where people could see them and not touching E. You're right, a lot of people feel as its a need to take E or speed to hang on, smoke blunts like the world is going to run out of weed, and for the guy/girlratio, well it has never been super, pretty much were sausage fest most of the time...except tiesto/armin van buuren nights . I think there is a slight change in the crowd now, cant say for trance nights, nor the for circus crowd, but for example lets take a big dj like howells, stereo was packed, i think it'd be strong to say it was packed with high on X people and ass grabbers. Afterhours usually you see a name you know, you pay the price to go see the dj, some probably do go for the trip and get high on E, but i'd like to think (because i cant confirm) that most of them arent high on E,afterhour just has a different vibe.
bal en blanc and other big events, that i wouldnt even contest your statement, i would agree 100%. As for any Hip hop room in a afterhour, i'd understand people smoking j's, but they'd still be enjoying their time if there was good music.

i went to that akon/sean paul/wyclef show (don't ask, did it for the buffet and free booze not the music:p) and all i saw was 14 year old girls in the place. So i'm guessing if you have 14 year old girl dj's the place will be packed.
