may i ask a question? having never played an FF game... do you actually get to play a role/make decisions or is it really just a dungeon hack adventure game (with a no-doubt ty japanese storyline)?

Depends what game it is rpgs like star ocean have 100s of different outcomes and storylines following one main story. Character abilities are deep including, cooking, alchemy, weapon smithing, music etc...One of my favorites (thank god for the psp remake coming out :) ) As for final fantasys they have always been pretty linear with some character and party customization. Not to deep to keep casual rpgers happy. As for "ty japanese storylines" I'm not sure what you meant so I'm just gonna assume you have a wombat in your ass this morning. :gsmile:

Some of the earlier-to-middle FF games have some of the best stories in all of gaming... Although the actual game series is very hit or miss. Every game is so different and fans of the series are sharply divided on them. No two fans have the same top 5 favorites in that order.

It makes a great blue-ray player. Thats why I would get one...gaming second.

Have you played FFIII, worst story ever, I think the story in pacman is better than this.

Just read this, good news.

I am glad Square is moving towards releasing more games on more platforms. I still do not have a PS3 or 360...this will make the decision even harder.

Anyway, with this recent announcement there really arent that many reason left for buying a PS3. Ok there is GT5 but who knows when that will come out. The biggest thing going for the PS3 right now is that it plays blue ray discs. And that is all.

I have to modify this statement a bit. I bought a copy of my favorite gaming mag today, and on the dvd that comes with it i saw the trailer for Disgaea 3. I didn't even know that one was in development but if its only half as awesome as the previous two games (and just by looking at the trailer it seems that it will be) it will be a great buy. Still not enough to convince me to buy a PS3 though.

Good news for 360 owners. I, for one, do believe that multiplatforming hurts the gaming industry more than it helps, but from a basic standpoint, more people will get to play this beautiful game, so that's always good.

Though keep in mind that in Japan, only the PS3 version will be available. Had this game hit the 360 there, it may have helped push the lacking sales, but I guess that's a moot point now.

Elaborate please.

Only reason I ask is that with the absolutely soaring production costs for games, it doesn't shock me that title exclusivity is going the way of the dinosaur.

I think the flipside to that is when you are committed to only one platform you only concentrate on that format and not the lowest common denominator. I've heard it is much easier to program for the PS3 by itself rather than both - and vice versa. I've also heard if you start with the PS3 and port to the 360 you will have much easier time than the other way around.

That being said, I really don't give a hoot about exclusives and I am really happy with my PS3. I do get bummed when things go exlusive to teh 360, but then I realize it is just a video game and go on to enjoy what I do have. I have not had any problems finding plenty of fun games to play. (woo - 1.4 comes out for Warhawk tomorrow!!)

Cheapest future-proof one out there atm (or at least when I bought it)

I'm really ashamed to say that I hadn't thought of the issue this way before.

Great explanation, definitely makes sense to me, but the only question I'd then raise is whether or not that means we'd rather have a single console that everything is released for, or have to make a decision we may well regret in picking a system and realizing only later that a plethora of exclusive titles down the line won't be available to you?

It's definitely no simple issue, that's for sure.
