I got a feeling a lot of you guys are going to say it's a bad idea, but i'll ask anyway.

I use my PC for pretty much everything which includes playing games, watching movies and producing, and would like to get a 5.1 setup to have surround sound.

I currently am using an audiophille 2496 card which works fine, but wont support a 5.1 system so im wondering if I can get a card that will work well for 5.1 in movies / games, and 2.1 for production.

Maybe one of the soundblaster cards would be worth a look? any advice ?

Thanks!

i think the best way is for you to have two cards, one for producing and one for gaming... and don't feel so ashamed, i can't afford another station either so i watch movies from the same computer that i produce in... (tho i haven't play a computer game in years...) probably its not a good thing but what can one do with no money and an expensive love towards music? :)

I did think about this but ive heard bad things about running two soundcards at the same time. If it is ok to do that I may even be able to get away with just using the onboard sound for 5.1 and keeping my 2496 for production, but that leads me to the problem... I will only have one set of speakers but 2 soundcards.
