Yeah, the Alt + Back button is great. It's also good to check it to see which programs you 'left' open, because programs don't close unless you automatically close them.

This is in an issue with some of the models out there as there was a 'memory leak' issue with the Pearl and Curves ... way to go RIM on that one ...

It would automatically delete all of your emails, call logs, SMS history because there wasn't sufficient memory.

I upgrade to OS 4.5.0.37 and that appears to have solved the issue...i hope.

This is the EXACT problem I am having with mine. It has deleted everything a number of times and I am extremely annoyed. I will try to upgrade when I get home and see if that solves the problem.

The only thing with the upgrade is that it isn't official right now for Rogers.

There are a few carriers out there that have released the upgrade to 4.5, but a lot of programs are not compatible with it.

I downloaded mine from the Vodafone website in Germany I believe. If you want to link let me know and I'll find it for you, but if you upgrade its at your own risk. There is always the potential of bricking your phone.

There are ways to fix the issue without upgrading like delete certain things you don't need off the phone and stuff. Take a look at this site and it'll help you free up space so that you don't run into the memory issue.

you can't back this stuff up really. It's not stuff thats important that gets deleted.

But it just sucks when you're entire call log is deleted (not address book). I use my call log all the time incase i have to call back a number or need to see when someone called.

And backing up SMS messages isn't a standard backup. You need a special program, or to manuaully back up each SMS individually.

Also for the emails, its not a big deal because the original copy is still in the original mailbox, but its no longer on the device.

Not stuff you can back up.

If your phone isn't one of those models (ie 8130 or 8320/30 or something like that) I wouldn't recommend installing it.

Remember, it's at your own risk since its not offically released by Rogers. But this is an official release (NOT Beta) for the new 4.5 OS so it will be the exact same as the one Rogers will release (unless they offer a newer version) and is 100% compatible with Rogers.

Here are the new feature for OS4.5

In the following, H denotes Handheld update, S denotes Server update:

BlackBerry Curve (all models), BlackBerry 8820 or 8830:

* BlackBerry Maps with Points of Interest (H)
* Improved media player with playlist support and automatic playlist generation (H)
* Voice note recording (H)
* Video recording on Curve models (H)
* Streaming support for YouTube and Sling Player (H)
* Microsoft Office document editing with DocumentsToGo (H)
* Native format attachment downloading (S)
* HTML e-mails (S)
* Over-the-air device upgrades (S)
* Free/busy calendar lookup (S)
* Searching the server for old e-mail messages (S)

BlackBerry Pearl 8100 or BlackBerry 8800:

* Spell check (H)
* BlackBerry Maps with Points of Interest (H)
* Improved media player with playlist support and automatic playlist generation (H)
* Voice note recording (H)
* Streaming support for YouTube and Sling Player (H)
* Bluetooth stereo music (H)
* Microsoft Office document editing with DocumentsToGo (H)
* Native format attachment downloading (S)
* HTML e-mails (S)
* Over-the-air device upgrades (S)
* Free/busy calendar lookup (S)
* Searching the server for old e-mail messages (S)

BlackBerry Pearl 8130:

* Automatic playlist generation in the media player (H)
* Microsoft Office document editing with DocumentsToGo (H)
* Native format attachment downloading (S)
* HTML e-mails (S)
* Over-the-air device upgrades (S)
* Free/busy calendar lookup (S)
* Searching the server for old e-mail messages (S)

BlackBerry 8700 or 8703e:

* Spell check (H)
* BlackBerry Maps with Points of Interest (H)
* New pictures and ringtones applications (H)
* Voice note recording (H)
* Microsoft Office document editing with DocumentsToGo (H)
* Native format attachment downloading (S)
* HTML e-mails (S)
* Over-the-air device upgrades (S)
* Free/busy calendar lookup (S)
* Searching the server for old e-mail messages (S)

there's no point really.

if your stuff gets corrupt or deleted, you can basically reset the account on the BES, wipe your device and reload everything back. faster than backing up.

for those going crazy installing apps, please be careful. this one user at work had his bb replaced, but even after wiping his old device it was still getting his confidential gmails (the next user was reading all his private emails). i think the apps are tied to the bb PIN, so you can still receive stuff even if your device is wiped.
