I agree with everyone else and highly recommend that you don't get those Sony's, they are just too expensive. Use that money for Tech 12's.

On the other hand, I highly recommend the Sony MDR-V6, that cost about $60 U.S. They have fantastic sound quality, and a load of DJ's use these - they're excellent, and if you consider the low price - perfect.

I'm thinking that they may even sound better than the CD-2000's? I'm not too much of a headphone expert, talk to Gluegun. ;)

Anyway, please check out the headphone sticky thread in the DJ Booth forum; it's quite useful.

ok. After spending an hour reading the sticky about the headphones, i am gonna settle on the Sennheiser HD280 Pro.

About the Turntables, I have been reading a LOT of people suggesting the Technics 1200s. whats so special about them??

Oh yea somethin else, what should i look for when shopping for turntables?

Although Tech-1200's are indeed the best and used by every serious DJ, they cost a lot too. Each one is $400-500.

Regarding Numarks: I have Numark TT-1520 direct drive, and have no problems whatsoever, the stuff that people say about Numarks is just lies. I got a pair for $300, it works great, the only problem is that obviously the motor isn't as strong as it is in the Tech's, but there are ways to get around that.

If you've got the money for Tech's great, settle for nothing less. But I'm here to tell you first-hand that if you go for the cheaper Numarks, they're not that bad.

may i welcome you to gluegun?? lol

Why do i always have to get myself into the most expensive hobbies?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

$400-500 each? screw that man. I am not about to go out and spend all my saved money just for a "powerful direct drive motor"

There must be a reasonable turntable out there for a beginner, and i have no clue where to look! suggestions?

I'm a beginner just like you, and have tested out a few different types of TTs. I would recommend getting a pair of used technics 1200s on ebay. There are tons of ppl selling them, and you can probably get a pair of them for between 700-800. I got lucky and actually got them for 650, so you never know. With regards to headphones, i've tried out the sony MDR-V700DJ, Sony MDR-V6, and the IXOS Ministry of sound headphones (this is the one i currently own). I must say that even though the Sony MDR-V6 feel much cheaper than the other 2, i think they have the best sound quality. I would have bought these had i not gotten the IXOS MOS as a gift. But honestly, if you know you're going to spend a decent amt of cash, which you will have to if you are gettin into DJing, i'd def. focus your spending on the tables. Just my opinion. Hope it helps..

A question out of the blue,
Whats the difference between a straight and an S-shaped tonearm?
Why are the S-shaped more expensive??
DJ TranceFormer
They are not more expencive...
S-shaped arm is better for trance Djing, str8 doesn't skip but it supposedly wears out your vinyl quicker, the quality of the sound isn't as good...
Numarks do suck, 1520's TT1's whatever, they just blow. The pitch control is messed up, they have a really ty motor and the most important thing is that they have a high WOW and flutter percentage(can't hold the pitch for too long...)
But i understand that you prolly wont get techs, so i would suggest getting some gemin's or maybe stanton's(even though i hated both of the ones that i had (str8-80 and str8-100))

the stanton st-100 ... i recommend this one
