| My parents told me about two weeks ago that we're gonna start looking for a new house, mostly to downgrade. Our house is fairly big and it's only my parents and me living in it. We've lived in it for 20 years and all of my childhood memories are here. For those of you that are familiar with Long Island, I live in Northport now and we're looking for a house in the Huntington area, close to the harbor. Just about 15 minutes from where we are. It sucks. I've been pretty depressed since I found out. Tonight it's almost starting to hit home. My dad asked me to straighten up my room because a realtor is coming over tomorrow to take a look at it. Anyway, I'm doing some retail therapy this weekend and getting a new laptop at Best Buy. |

Seems like thats what everyone is doing. It sucks Mate but I don't blame your parents. I'm getting ed (without lube) by the property market every day. This time next year I think I'll be living in My car. |

Steven, my love, you are 100% right. I don't blame them one bit either. The whole process just sucks and I'm not a fan of change. I recently had to switch contractors as part of my apprenticeship so that wasn't too easy. It's getting better with each day though. At least I'm working closer to Penn Station (53rd & Lex. NICE!). Anyway, that's neither here nor there. We got an apartment in the city a few years ago so the mortgage on the house is sky high. They would rather sell the house and downgrade then sell the apartment, which they frequently use. It makes perfect sense. It's just gonna be super hard for me.
And I'm sorry to hear about your situation. My aunt and uncle from Florida were over last night and they were telling us horror stories about the real estate market down there. I was getting depressed just hearing what they had to say! Literally, people just leaving everything behind, houses unfinished, etc. |

grow up - the most successful people are those who can best adapt to change. |

lmao, I concur ;)
Speaking of real estate, my team provided financing for a piece of real estate at 7 Hubert Street, New York, NY; yes, across the street from the old Arc space.
I dont remember the appraised value off the top of my head, I'll disclose tomorrow. I think I recall $4-5MM for the condo unit. I'll confirm tomorrow, but nevertheless, I saw the file today and I thought to myself, wow.. Hubert Street.. had some crazy, late night to 10AM parties there..
RIP Arc -sorry to hijack; had to :toothless |

| Well, look on the bright side... you'll be right near Huntington Village, which has some great restaurants and shops, cool area... it's not like you're moving to another state or anything, you're still gonna be real close to your friends and all. |

Pancho Villa's Huntington Village!! The only place I've seen besides Sillivan Room that has (or had) a cigarette vending machine. Best place to go to buy cigarettes when we were in HS and too young, lol. And remember Xando Cosis? They closed :( My friends and I used to get the giant make your own s'mores platter. What fond memories of toasting a marshmallow on a skewer over a sterno.
Bummer about the move though Dan, that's always rough. |

Huntington Village is awesome....i work in Commack/Hauppauge and have frequented alot of places...
Artful Dodger places 'real' house, or as close as you can get on some nites, J.Findlays is cool too..nice restaurants like Pancho Villas and Blue Honu, which i think is just Honu now..asian fusion and great after work pick up spot...down Rt 110 in Melville/Farmingdale is Four Lounge and the Blackstone Steakhouse...
You'll be fine brotha...id actually suggest getting your on crib in Hunt Village...if i had to move out here for work...THATS the only place id consider getting an apt. |

well yes, maybe he is right....but I know if my parents sold the home I grew up in I would be soo sad. I dont live there anymore, but I go home every summer a few times and for holidays. There are memories there, and I ALWAYS look forward to having a free beach to lay on, a place to go boating/jetskiing/having bon fires/see old friends and fam, etc.....There are just some things you love about the place you grew up with. Nothing wrong with THAT. |

Awwww Dan....
I (we the fam) moved out of our house right after I graduated high school; the 'rents split; and after that there was no "going home" cause home didn't exist anymore :(
but a house is just a shell; it's the people that make it home :) |

If you read the whole thread, you would have known that my comment wasn't necessarily directed at his situation, but that my post just echos the comments that jerz brought up over change in general. ;)
As for danlaxx1, it sucks that you're moving out of a place where you have a lot of great memories growing up, but at the same time, you'll get over it fast. Change is something that you'll inevitably have to deal with when you least expect it from time to time. |
