I probably have somewhere around 80Gs give or take.

I way I do it is I use a file re-namer to sort the tracks (artist-title) then go through all the songs, one by one, once they are alphabetized, then delete the doubles.

Most internet programs that search for doubles won't work right because they only pick up on mp3s of equal size or file names that are exactly the same. I think it took me about 12 hours to sort out around 200gig .

oh wow. you did do it by hand! That's impressive :) I have multiple copies of my music in all different places / harddrives and I've been meaning to consolidate it.

What file renaming programs do you guys use? Any of them Mac compatible?
StarSoprano426
I dunno of any myself. I've not seen any in the stores. I have a mac too.

Does anyone know of a good program that would organize, consolidate, and re-name music? And if so, where would I buy it and how much do these things go for?

Thanks for the help :)

How many of you have lost an obscene amount of music due to a computer/hard-drive/ external crashing breaking, or dying? I wish I backed things the whole time I did this. I lost so much music from crashes and HD's breaking

This was me from Sept 2000 to June 2005. I must of been downloading 10 songs per day every day.

Shadowzone
Napster
Audio Galaxy
DC Hub

Now I have about 10,000 tracks of which I did not listen to 1/4 of thoses :wtf:

You know iTunes you can click "View" then "Show Duplicates" and if the track name and artist are the same i think it will come up. Works for most of mine! Very helpful!

Dupe Checker PRO.

works like a charm :D
checks for dupes based on name, content, and name&content

for batch renaming/tagging i use Tag&Rename

Thanks so much, both of you. This is a project I've been putting off for YEARS. And the longer I put it off, the more arduous a task it becomes. This will definitely make my job easier. :)
