'Safari’ pours forth the sounds of a seriously twisted jungle from Lee’s laptop for the first EP from his forthcoming album. Elephant trumpets swathed in reverb and de-tuned bird calls combine with squelchy, melodic percussive loops to create something truly fresh but unmistakably Lee Jones. For the remix, Stimming makes use of Lee's weird and wonderful sounds; tweaking, reemphasizing and twisting the sounds. He increases the swing and bounce of the groove and fattens up the drums to push this firmly onto the peak time dancefloor. Finally, ‘Roadwork's jacking, stripped back groove and wildly pitch shifted stab sequence are suddenly softened with a blissful chord sequence that changes the vibe completely - a proper smile inducing, head nodding, spine tingling moment.

I have to say that the original is a bit "gimmicky" in terms of what it sounds like. There's a ton of releases coming out now that use this stripped back jungle-like tribal sound as a beat. Nothing wrong with it necessarily, I own/play a ton of it (tracks from Two Armadillos, Sascha Dive, Bearweasel, Solomun), but it's getting a bit too much imo.

The original mix of Safari is no exception (hence the title I'm sure :p) but the Stimming mix does a great job of taking a bit of the jungleness out and making it a nice romp through house land :) And I looove that elephant trumpeting through the track. So neat.

Their little blurb about Roadwork is pretty spot on.

Ok, now I do too. :)

The Stimming Remix totally took a sample from Commander Keen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commander_Keen).

I just got the Stimming remix since I generally love what this guy does. It's kinda slow tho, to be honest. I'm still trying to figure out how I should use it in a set.

Agree on all the "jungle noises" being used. Was going to make a mix strictly with jungle-styled tunes, but it turned out way too repetitive.

Roadwork and Weisses are fun...
