My buddy is in the industry, and said that IMAX is lower quality than any fully digital film because it is shot in analog and then must be processed into digital.

Also, as previously mentioned, only a few shots were shot in IMAX. Most of the movie was shot in regular 16:9 or Anamorphic.

not worth it. Just go to a theater with digital projectors, same fee as normal projector theaters and it's clear as hell.

So there is a double in ticket price with IMAX, but not a double in quality.

True dat

It has been shown that IMAX improves nothing on regular movies. Size is not everything. Just like with digital cameras, the number of megapixels doesn't mean better. You can have a 6mp dslr take better photos than a 20mp point and shoot. Why? Because the quality of each pixel in the 6mp is better than the 20.

As they say, Bigger is not always better.

The grass is not always greener on the other side.

What has a clearer picture, 1080i or 720p?

i know when i was watching it - and the way that christopher nolan described his intentions when filming in imax during a talk i attended last week - i was watching more for the complete scope of a scene rather than picture quality. in certain scenes, the imax frame emphasizes the enormity of the situation, eg. the hong kong building scene and the ensuing fight scene; the joker's head out of the cop car; alfred doing what he did with rachel's thing (if you watch the movie you'll know what i mean). i don't think nolan intended to use the imax cameras to show the boogers coming out of heath's nose.

I guess I should have said in terms of quality and overall experience. IMAX is sure as hell the best format for conveying the sheer size of something as it captures the size of something VERY well.

Again this is for standard movies, not the movies that IMAX usually shows, like March of the Penguins.

word. i think too much is being talked about picture quality; in reality, nolan just wanted to use it to show big stuff and show it could be done for feature films, not just documentaries.
