Just because you like the lineup doesn't mean everyone else has to shut up. There are issues in this city when it comes to certain type of music and there will be complains whether you like it or not. If you are so excited to see the almighty van buuren for the tenth time that's fine, but it wouldn't really hurt to unscrew your mind and see what's out there beside the regular fifteen DJs that you know about. Toronto knows how to party but it doesn't know when it comes to different varieties of music, and there I said it. |
before you tell me to "unscrew my mind" you might have decided to read my post properly. I agreed that this was not MY IDEAL line up for a party...but that a lot of people don't realize what they've got in this city and how good we've got it musically. There have been great techno and house acts (not only at Guv but Footwork...Cherry Beach...) The trance acts have been coming... Yogi just came last week for the hard trance fans even....
Sure we could use some more variety at the Guv, but its not the only club in the city.
People can complain. That's fine. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Not once did I say people needed to "Shut up" and listen to my opinion.
And YOUR opinion may be that people in Toronto "don't know when it comes to different varieties of music"....well...as I said...everyone has their own opinion...wether they be valid or not...
jesus. calm down and have a nice night. ;)
there. i said it. |

In fact someone has created such a thread and you are reading it right now. And after all it seems as you are the one who is whining here. :tongue3

why does everyone complain about guv when there are other venues in toronto that bring in talent? if you dont like the djs that guv brings in then go to another venue. its not that hard to figure out. guv has already established their relationship with certain djs and agencies while other venues have theirs. |
It's not about contracts, it's about clubs taking wise risks and bring new faces who have not played in Toronto for years.

Right, everyone has their own opinion, but there is no point of exchanging opinions when you already have decided that your opinion is valid. |

Do you know this for fact? I'm sure (though I will not say for certain), that part of it does have to do with contracts, or at least building business relationships. And although not necessarily for huge parties, I find that Guv has recently starting to bring in a wider variety of names.
In terms of taking wise risks, they somewhat do have to stick to what they know will bring in money, as they are still a business. We've seen how clubs like Boa and Sonic eventually (I believe) do in part to the DJs they brought in. They took risks bringing in names that may not be as mainstream, but people in the scene knew who they were. Eventually, both of those clubs closed though.
I will admit though, that I have never worked in the entertainment industry, and thus my speculations as to risk taking and reasons for clubs closing could be completely off base.
Edit - One other thing. I'm lucky in that I've been able to come up to Toronto on a fairly frequent basis. However, I do spend a lot more time in Windsor than I used to. While Remo is doing a good thing with Boom Boom Room and bringing in some good DJs...Windsor has NOTHING compared to what you guys have in Toronto, nor do we have ANY variety. Detroit is no better. So while as EDM enthusiasts some Torontonians may think that the scene sucks, it's still a lot better than what most people have. And this is coming from someone who lives in a decent size city only a few hours away from Toronto. |

| If DJ X has never been to Toronto then it's safe to say that he is not on any kind of contract with any clubs in our city. And honestly a large metropolitan area like ours deserves better parties than a city like Windsor, there is no question about that. |

The Guvernment is only going to book DJs that are well-known through out the edm scene and can guarantee sales so they can profit from the event/s , I mean afterall it is a business.
There's so many DJs that I'd love to see such as Richard Durand or Mr Sam but I think it'll be years before they ever play in Toronto.
So many people take this city for granted and don't realize how lucky they are. If you go anywhere else in Canada besides Toronto and Montreal, you'll see that it sucks and wish you were back here; trust me, I've lived all over Canada and I know what I'm talking about.
I for one am very happy with the LOL 2008 lineup but like I said you can never please everyone. |

The fact that you think that's how it should be really scares the hell out of me. :D

You're completely misreading what I'm saying.
1. I'm talking about DJs having contracts who are ALREADY coming to Toronto, and thus the club having to bring them back.
2. When in my post did I say that Windsor deserves better parties than Toronto? |
