SAN FRANCISCO LOVEFEST - A DANCE MUSIC PARADE AND FESTIVAL

Greetings Music Lovers and Dancers,
I am extremely proud to be part of a greater culture and community to officially announce the first stage details of the 2008 San Francisco LoveFest. Who am I? Well my name is Alain Octavo and many of you already know me as Spundae’s San Francisco resident DJ as well as an exclusive resident to Ruby Skye. My role to this parade and festival is extremely complicated, but I mean that in a manner of love. Technically I help carry the promotions and creative direction for the festival and parade itself, along with that I have a separate role where I help direct the marketing for the official afterparty. On one side my efforts are endless in convincing thousands of people in joining San Francisco to dance in the streets for 8 hours under the warm sun, then somehow I have to help convince 10,000 people to use their hard earned money to pay for the official afterparty which continues for another 8 hours. I’m usually given 6 months to handle these tasks, this year I’m given 3 months to achieve even greater results. This path is no fault of the organizers, there have been a lot of political obstacles to rise to the present. I can’t do this alone, but if I have to I will. However I know it’s not going to be that way and here’s why I share this.
Right now I’m at work, this is what I do, I feel it’s more of a lifestyle because I don’t stop being myself since I love what I do. However; why is the greater motive that explains my foremost reasons for taking on such creativity. As of June, I’ve been immersed in San Francisco’s dance culture for 14 years and I’ve been listening to dance music since I was 7 years old. I only say that to point out the fact I’ve grown with this culture, however I strongly feel I’m no different than a person who falls in love with electronic dance music today. I always try my best to put my thoughts and feelings towards equality. As I was saying “I know it’s not going to be that way” meaning I know I won’t be doing this alone, since many people throughout my time have cultivated me in this electronic dance culture, whether it be a dancer, promoter or dj. Many people have learned to embrace their emotions, usually within their immediate family upbringing, mine comes of a lifetime of growing up alone at night around the strangest and most amazing people.
You may be someone who isn’t too familiar of electronic music or you flat out dislike techno of any kind. If you join us on October 4th when the parade starts at noon, I promise if I don’t get you to like dance music, someone else from San Francisco will. You may start the parade hating electronic dance music, but by the end of the festival you will love it. Again if I don’t then look for these people Taj, Claude Von Stroke, Mark Farina, Worthy, Syd Gris, Tony Hewitt, Jeno, Cloudskipper, Garth, Jason Randolph, Jason Knight, Kevin Kind, Nikola Baytala, Kue, DJ Sharp, Bassnectar, Michael Anthony, Kaskade, DRC, Tronic, Jamie Lin, Aaron Jae, Bam, Dyloot, Scott Carrelli, Dirtyhertz, Bachelors of Science, Carlos Alfonzo and I can go on forever. Yes, they’re all from around San Francisco, because San Francisco DJs can rock San Francisco better than anyone else. One of the DJs I mentioned will definitely rock your LoveFest experience to the point where you’ll love it and if they don’t then ask any of these other promoters or crews who their favorite DJs are: Blasthaus, Nocturnalism, Om Records, Love & Honor, Opulent Temple, Prismatic Electric (Remedy), FlirtyFlirty, Mixed Elements, Tribal Souls, Vibrance Recordings, Space Cowboys, Skills and so much more. Yes you can always ask anyone from Spundae too, we were voted several times as best promoters nationwide and worldwide, but that’s definitely not why I believe it. We’ve reached that achievement, because we were influenced from what I believe is the greatest dance culture on the planet. That’s San Francisco. Spundae was born in San Francisco therefore it couldn’t be where it is without the city and its beautiful people. It doesn’t mean I think San Francisco is better, I just feel and believe it’s the greatest, because it’s my home and heart. In fact I very much want to read or hear why you feel your city is the greatest on the planet. I do prefer you show it in the form of a dance and share it with us this October 4th in our city. Amongst it all you’ll find some of the most talented dancers on the planet. I will always respect and enjoy learning about other dance cultures.
In relation, I’m asking every person in San Francisco’s dance community and surrounding areas to please create a unified experience in showing the world how we’re the most fun, craziest and colorful dancers on this planet. There isn’t a city on this planet where the largest, most public accessible street is shut down just so people can dance down it only to end up as a festival where our supreme court, public library and a city museum are located; just center west the mayor is nice enough to allow city hall as a hosting area for our most welcomed visitors. We have come such a long way San Francisco now is always the time to carry the momentum and positive energy forward that our music creates whether it be: house, techno, trance, hardcore, jungle, breakbeats, ambient and anything else considered electronic dance music. We have experienced the basic, we have experienced the gathering and we have united as a tribe to funky techno. There are times we get stompy to a sunset and I certainly remember those times where we pretended to be spacechildren. Everyone talks about homebase, but San Francisco is the base I call home. My love affair has grown ever since we first created that night, the origin, the evolution and eon to eon to some they are just names of parties, to me they color my memories I use to paint the future. From here on out we are about to welcome thousands of people into a generation of creative music talent and bright people who express their everyday lifestyles through dance and art. It is vital, because as a growing global community we should educate and welcome those with an open heart. Whatever beat makes you dance there was a moment where it was introduced to you as well, so the awareness you have built up to the present needs to be shared with those who spark an interest in our dance culture. For many people it is a lifestyle: there are those who protect us from the dangers of a fire, some repair the everyday technologies we depend upon, others influence and educate the people of tomorrow. However we carry our lives through our occupations, dreams, academic goals or relationships, this culture embedded within us isn’t something that some of us just enjoy, but very much love. I am promoting to you why there are so many reasons to see us for who we really are, I know there are stereotypes of our culture you see in everyday media that does not exist in the greater percentage of people who are even more positive and real than I am. Many of us are single mothers, parents, students, teachers, athletes, officers and amazing people of all kind who live a lifestyle where we celebrate electronic music through dance.
This all goes down in a city where gay people get married while other people actually think they can win a foot race while pulling a bouncy castle 7 miles up and down hills. In between it all there’s a person reading their fortune from a cookie, after eating a shrimp burrito across the street from a church located next to a cannabis club that’s pretty much in the same district as gap headquarters near a ferry building capable of taking you to a prison that housed Al Capone who happens to be from Chicago where house music was born. I Love San Francisco!

Everything I’ve learned from electronic dance music I want to share with you, everyone I love I want you to meet, the city I love I want you to see, the music I love I want you to hear and the culture I love I want you to experience. You can do it all in one day. It may have taken you a while to read all this and I very much thank you for your time, however all of this happens in a blink of a second that I always carry forward. In exchange for your time I will do my very best in representing every wonderful aspect of electronic dance music and it’s culture and hopefully those who love it even more than I do will be proud.
It’s not only my job to get you to come, I really want you to join us, because I very much love what I do.

In helping with this year's SAN FRANCISCO LOVEFEST
I want to create a west coast edition web only flyer just for you. This flyer will ONLY promote West Coast DJs scheduled to play at this year's LoveFest. You will be the headliners on this flyer. All you have to do is share it with as many people as possible =)
It doesn't matter what kind of music you play, it doesn't even matter if I like you or not. This is about electronic music and it's culture.
