Gonzales High teacher faces child-porn charge

A 20-year veteran Spanish teacher at Gonzales High School turned himself in to police Thursday afternoon amid mounting evidence of his involvement with child pornography.
Sgt. Peter Austin of the Gonzales police said they charged 52-year old Craig Dinwiddie with seven counts of possession of child pornography, two for distribution; two counts of annoying children and one count of possession of marijuana.
"He took inappropriate photographs of minors, which is a misdemeanor," Austin said.
The police were on to Dinwiddie on May 28 when someone reported that child pornography had been sent to two people from an unknown Internet user using the AOL Internet service provider in Gonzales. Police said they then issued a warrant that ordered AOL to release information linking the account to Dinwiddie in early June.
"AOL regularly monitors their own system for obscene content and child porn," said Austin.
He added that AOL reports the information to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children who in turn get the information to the appropriate authorities.
Police said they then filed a second search warrant for Dinwiddie's home and confiscated computers, memory sticks, photographs and other items and sent them to the Salinas Police Department crime lab for analysis. Austin said that it took about a month to go through all of the digital information.
He added that Dinwiddie contacted his attorney at that point and has been cooperative with police.
Austin, a 17-year veteran with the Gonzales Police Department, said that this case is the first he's seen involving child pornography and a teacher in Gonzales.
"Dinwiddie has never been the focus of any investigation," he said. "There are only a handful of these types of cases in the county."

yeah he was always a little too friendly with the girls in class.
i honestly thought he was gay or something but turns out he was a sick man. He was obsessed with sandra bullock i remember. |

yeah....thats true....
he was also a girl's drill teacher.
his walls were always covered with pictures of girls from school.
the only thing that was cool was that he'd let us watch tv most of the time, instead of teaching us. |

everytime i hear about a story like this i just get sick in the pit of my stomach!!!! i will begin my 12th year teaching this year and i can't understand how people like this get into the school system! yeah, yeah, i know it's a disease and since i don't have it i wouldn't be able to understand it but still, never have i looked at any of my students and thought anything different than children and my responsibility to them and their safety!!!!
i mean, allegedly, innocent until proven guilty i guess |

I know what you mean.I don't have kids, but I think that most parents beleive that their kids teachers can be trusted. Is it just me or do these cases seem like they are happening more frequently? |

I always wondered if you'd end up being one of those hot teachers that nails a student. But then again, you don't teach in the south :p |

I was in part of highschool in the south and didnt get any from my teachers :mad: :mad:
